Hi all, I am looking for information on these two famous people (I don't know that they are that famous) but these two who lived in New Jersey and married, David Baxter wanted a divorce which didn't sit to well with the state. In an article that I read it said: During the Provincial and Colonial Periods in New Jersey, divorces were granted, if at all, by the Govenor, presumely in his capacity as Chancellor. The first exception to this practice was in 1772 when the legislature passed "An Act to Dissolve the Marriage of David Baxter with Margaret, his wife, late Margaret MacMurtry." This was such a radical departure from English precedent that the king not only disallowed the Act (Sept 1, 1773), but on Nov. 24, 1773, instructed all the Govenors in North America "that you do not upon any pretense whatsoever give your assent to any Bill or Bills...for the divorce of persons joined together in Holy Marriage". I would like to know who David's parents are and what years these two were born. thanks julie
