    1. Re: [NJSUSSEX-L] Snover
    2. J. Kelsey Jones, I've been searching and searching the Walpack RDC for the bp. showing Johannes Snauber and wife, Anna Elis. Windemoedin, on 11 Sep 1746. The reason I could not find it is because the bp. did not occur in Walpack, Sussex Co., NJ but rather across the Delaware River in the Machackemack RDC of Orange Co., NY. There were 2 more sponsors for this baptism; Jory Philip Wundenmuth, Maria Julianna Huber, his wife. The reason for 4 sponsors was that this was the baptism for twins, Maria Margreta and Maria Juliana, daughters of Johan Jory Windemuth and Johanna Margreta Elizabeth Bernhardin. The 25 Oct 1747 of little "Johannes" Windemuth with sponsors Johannes Merckel and Anna Elizabeth Snauber also took place in the NY Machackemack RDC, not Walpack NJ. The ONLY "Windemuth" baptisms I can find recorded in the Walpack RDC, Sussex Co., NJ are little Johan Christoffel on 27 Apr 1756 to Philip Windemuth and Maria Juliana Huber and little David Hunt Wintamute on 26 Jun 1825 to George Wintamute, Jr. and Magdalen Staley. Evidently the family did not stay entirely within one church? Below is the information I have on his parents and the information I have on Frederick and his family. Johannes Schnauber (the anglicized version has become Snover) b. 1701 Germany m. c. 1722 Anna Elisabetha Windemuth (now Wintermute) b. 9 Jan 1702/3 bpt 12 Jan 1702/3 Pfungstadt, Starkenburg, Hessen, Germany daughter of Johannes Christoph Windemuth and Maria Margaretha Kleppinger . The records of Pfungstadt, Germany indicate that Johannes was a master miller. Their children were baptised in the Lutheran Church of Pfungstadt. The Snover family arrived at Philadelphia, 26 Sept 1737 on the ship, "Saint Andrew Galley." They resided at or near what is now Trappe, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. On 13 Oct 1742 Johannes was a sponsor for a child of Johann Georg Krassmann (Crossmann) baptised at the Agustus Lutheran Church at Trappe. The family removed to Stillwater, Sussex County, New Jersey, perhaps in company with her two brothers and their families. They had removed to Stillwater before 11 Sept 1746 when "Johannes Snauber and wife Anna Elisabetha Windemoedin witnessed a baptism. Anna Elizabeth was a sponsor at the baptism in Oct 1747 of her nephew, John Wintermute at Walpack, Sussex County. >>
