Hello, I am having problems tracing my RUDE family connections of New Jersey. I'm hoping that someone reading this can help me piece it together and fill in the blanks. If you recognize any of these names, please contact me. My email address is mmdavis@hspower.com. I recently spoke with my grandfather, HARRY FISHER RUDE, born in 1917 in Plainfield, New Jersey. I'm not sure which county, as I have found it listed in several. His parents were PETER ALVAH RUDE (5 Dec 1884, NJ--28 Apr 1977, NJ) and IDA MAE HANN (2 Feb 1888--after 1945). This much we are pretty sure of. The rest that follows he wasn't absolutely positive of. Grandpa said the family was from Plainfield, and some from Old Germantown, which was later renamed Oldwick. PETER ALVAH RUDE was the son of WINFIELD RUDE, no dates known. I haven't found him listed anywhere on census records or anything else. I did find a marriage record that seems to have some significance, but I am not sure it ties in yet. In Sussex County, on 4 Jan 1827 a HENRY RUDE married MARY WINFIELD. From this I am currently assuming that these are my WINFIELD RUDE's parents, but am looking for some proof. I don't have access to the census records as I am in SC, but I am pretty sure that WINFIELD would have been shown as a child living with his parents on the 1860 and possibly 1850 census somewhere in NJ. Grandpa said he had two brothers. One was FRANCIS RUDE, who died at age nine months. The other was GEORGE RUDE, who was born in 1912 in NJ, and died in 1992 in Canada. GEORGE married a lady named JULIA. Grandpa also told me that his grandfather, WINFIELD RUDE had a half-brother named FRED RUDE ACKERMAN, who my father is named after, as well as having alot of other siblings. He didn't know whether his father PETER ALVAH RUDE had any siblings. FRED RUDE ACKERMAN sold insurance in Summerville, New Jersey. He also mentioned he had a first cousin in southern New Jersey named DOROTHY AMMERMAN who married a man named CHARLES. If any of this ties in with your family, please help me out. I don't have easy access to New Jersey records, and keep hitting brick walls. I am also looking for any information on the HANN side of the family. IDA MAE HANN's father was named SYLVESTER HANN. Thanks for your time!! Tabetha (Rude) Davis Saluda, SC mmdavis@hspower.com ---------------------------
