Sussex Independent, Friday, 15 November 1901: "Mrs. Martha (Roe) GARRISON, wife of our aged and esteemed citizen, Simeon Garrison, died at her home in this borough at 8:43 on Wednesday night of this week. Mrs. Garrison was born December 23, 1830 near Liberty Corner and was a daughter of John J. and Sarah Roe. She was united in marriage to Simeon Garrison on December 29, 1853. The greater part of their married life was spent in the Clove Valley, where for more than thirty years they occupied the John Cooper farm, now occupied by their son John. They removed to this borough about twelve years ago. Besides her husband, the deceased is survived by two children: Mrs. Emmet Wilson, living near this town, and John, residing in the Clove, as above stated. She is also survived by one brother, Jacob D. Roe of Paterson, and one sister, Miss Hattie Roe, of this borough. Mrs. Garrison was a highly respected lady, a good mother and a devoted wife. She was a member of the M. E. Church of this town for more than twenty years. The funeral will be held on Saturday morning, at the house, at 11 o'clock. Interment in the Papakating cemetery."
