Sussex Independent, Friday, May 2, 1902: "From our Unionville Correspondent: "Grinnell VanGelder died at his home near Unionville on Saturday evening last, after a brief illness of apoplexy, aged 61 years and 16 days. He was stricken Friday noon. Deceased was an honest and upright citizen, honored and esteemed by all who knew him. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Hardin and Mrs. John Randolph, both of Wantage. Funeral services were held at the house Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Mr. Bristow, of Sussex, of whose church he was a member. Interment in the Papakating cemetery."
