    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] Obit. - Sylvester R. GIVEANS
    2. Sussex Independent, Nov. 21, 1902: "The Middletown Argus of last Friday night says: Slyvester R. Giveans passed away at his home, 146 Academy Avenue, Thursday morning, in his sixty-seventh year. He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Miss Kate M., and Elroy, at home and W. Frank of New Vernon. Mr. Giveans married Mary E. Hunt, December 15, 1859. She died April 23, 1899. He is survived by three brothers and four sisters: Samuel R., of East Orange, NJ; Nicholas R. of Warwick, NY; John, of New York city; Mrs. Charles Rhodes of California, Mrs. Job Woodruff and Mrs. Elizabeth Drew, of New York city and Mrs. Clark Lane, of Newton, NJ. In his early years he carried on a grocery store at Vernon, NJ and later engaged in the cattle business which he carried on for thirty-four years. For twenty-one years he had his yards on the Dolsontown road near this city. Four weeks ago Mr. Giveans and his daughter returned from New Mexico, where they spent some time in the vain hope that the change of climate would restore Mr. Giveans to health. Mr. Giveans had a wide acquaintance throughout all this section and was estemmed by all who knew him. He was honorable in his buriness dealings and leaves behind him the priceless heritage of a blameless reputation."
