Sussex Independent, Sept. 25, 1903: "From our Sparta Correspondent:" "A strange case of appendicitis occurred recently in this vicinity. A child of twelve years had a violent attack, and a day was appointed for an operation. For some reason the surgeon found it impossible to fill the appointment on the day set. The child grew worse and suffered intensely. In the meantime the appendix sloughed off from the colon, or intestine, was forced up into it, and passed off in one of the passages from the bowels. At last accounts the child was free from pain and was doing well, with every prospect of recovering."
