Sussex Independent, Friday, May 13, 1927: "William Pierson Uptegrove died last thursday at his home in 23 Walkill avenue, Middletown, after an illness of three months. He wa born November 18, 1842. On June 15, 1907, he married Miss Mary E. Smith, who survives him with four children by a former marriage. Mrs. Peter Kaurman, William D. Uptegrove and Mrs. Leonard Teed, of White Plains, NY and Dr. Edward Pierson Uptegrove of Vernon. Mr. Uptegrove was a member of the Jr. O. U. A. M. and was a Civil War veteran, being a member of Company E., 124th New York Volunteers, known as the Orange Blossoms. Captain Jackson, Post, G. A. R., held a service at the funeral Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. Rev. R. O. Kirkwood officiated. Burial was in Walkill Cemetery."
