Sussex Independent, May 18, 1900: Mrs. Jennie H. Cox, widow of the late John K. Odell, who formerly lived at the Independent school house in Vernon township, died at the home of her nephew, Herbert L. Cox, at Tri-State ?(ink blurb) on Sunday night, where she had been making her home for the past year. The cause of her death was cancer, from which she had been a sufferer for two years past. The deceased ws a daughter of William and Emeline Cox of Deckertown, and was born in the township, and was in her 60th year. Twenty-four years ago she married John K. Odell, who died about two years ago. No children were born of their union. Early in life Mrs. Odell became a member of the Baptist church,and has always been an active Christian worker. Mrs. Odell was a kind, amiable woman, and beloved by all who knew her. She is survived by her aged parents, one sister, Emma, wife of John O. Havens, of Deckertown, and two brothers, James M., of Tri-States, and Luther, of Deckertown. She is also survived by two step-daughters, Anna, wife of John Decker, of Deckertown, and Elizabeth, wife of Ira VanSickle of Quarryville. The funeral was held at the home of Mrs. Decker, in this town, on Wednesday afternoon. Interment at Papakating cemetery."
