I posted this to the Sussex Co. Obit forum and probably didn't do something just right as I never saw it mentioned on this list. However, it is IN that forum because I just read it from there. John CRABTREE was my great-great-great grandfather. If any of you who read this, connect, please get in touch with me. Mona in Indiana On Friday, January 9, 1991, John CRABTREE departed this life after a short illness in Vernon, aged about 79 years. His wife, Eliza, died about eight years ago. Six children survive him, Christiana M., wife of Abram Bross, Harriet, widow of the late Henry Griggs, of Newton, Catherine, wife of James Sayer, of Newark, Josephine, wife of Ira Drew, of Vernon, John, of Owego, NY and James of Brooklyn, NY. His wife was a member of the M. E. Church over forty years and always manifested great interest in its welfare. She was a genial kind hearted woman and was universally esteemed. His early days were spent on the farm, but later in life he pursued the wagon maker's trade, at which he continued until his death. In politics he was a Democrat, and for fifteen years held the office of constable of Vernon township, spending a great deal of time attending to his official duties which he performed in a very acceptable manner. In his younger days he was a great lover of field sports, and he usually attended the general trainings and horse races. Although he was an eccentric man, he was possessed of a kind and generous heart, and was considered an honest and upright man in his dealings with his neighbors. The family have the sympathies of the whole neighborhood in their sad bereavement. The funeral occured Sunday, 11th instant. Interment at the Vernon Cemetery. >From the NJ Herald, Jan. 22, 1891.
