I have two Smith lines. One has had me stumped for 20 years. I have a William Smith who was born @July 1837. In 1850 he was living in West Milford, Passaic County with John and Anna Parsell/Parcell. She was Anna Winters. William served in the civil war under the name of William Parcell. After the Civil war he married and lived in Sussex County as William Smith. Reportedly these were his grandparents. The only thing I had on his parents was that his father was William Smith and Mother Nancy Winters. I had assumed that they were dead because I would find nothing on them. With the help of the Sussex County 1850 census I came across the following entry. in Newton. William L. Smith 49 County Clerk, Nancy 48, John W. 23, Marshall 15, Emma 8, Jane 12 and a Susan Coleman 22. In 1860 I find Nancy Smith (52 or 62) with property, William 23 farmer and Emma 19 (This was a very poor filming of the original) Does anyone know anything about the above William and Nancy Smith and their children. It appears possible that my William moved back home with his mother and younger sister after the death of his father. His Grandparents do not appear in the 1860 census that I could find and since they were 66 and 65 in 1850 I figured that they had died. I also could not find William in the 1860 Passaic County census. Thanks for our Help Peggy Pharris TN
