    3. J. Kelsey Jones asked ... > Curious as to which Ayers, Beardslees and Moores... I'd found in the 1870 Michigan Census. I'm researching the descendants of Gaspar Rorick (whose sons, Michael and Gaspar settled in Sussex County), so all of these descend in some way from him. Joseph AYERS or AYRES (born abt. 1812 in Sussex County) who married Hannah SUTTON (born 12 Aug 1832 in Sussex County, d/o Michael Rorick Sutton and Elizabeth Forrester) is in the household of his father-in-law (Michael Rorick Sutton), with his wife and two children, Joseph S. Ayers (14 in the census) and Augusta L. Ayers (11 in the census). His occupation is boot/shoemaker (as is his father in law). They are in Macomb County. Also, I forgot to mention in my first message that there are other Sussex County Suttons in Michigan in 1870. Susan Rorick married Lewis MOORE (1807-1853). He was born and died in Sussex County and is buried in the North Church cemetery (thank you, Nancy Pascal!). His widow emigrated to Lenawee County (joining three brothers and two sisters, their families, and the children of two brothers and their wives and one neice who all died in Sussex County leaving under-age children who were then sent to the families in Lenawee County). She remarried to a widower named Moses Vail, and she is found in 1870 with him as Susan Vail. The children of her first marriage (all last name Moore) included John A. (born about 1828), Josie (born about 1830), Jacob B. (abt. 1832), Mary R. (abt. 1834), and A.L. "Losey" Moore (abt. 1835). The sons are in the 1870 census in Lenawee County. I believe the two older sons are with their wives and children. A.L. is with his mother and stepfather. And, if anyone knows who Lewis Moore's parents were, I'd be much obliged. Finally, two daughters of Lewis Sutton and Elizabeth Losey married BEARDSLEEs. The husbands were both born in NJ, per the census, and I suspect they came from Sussex County. The wives were born there. Abigail Sutton (1829-1919) married Ebenezer Beardslee (1820-1914). They had Anna (abt. 1852), Charlotte (abt. 1853), Arabella (abt. 1855), Samuel (abt. 1856), Flora (abt. 1858), Ruth Ann (abt. 1860), Mary Ellen (abt. 1862), Lucy (abt. 1864), Carrie W. (abt. 1867), and Augusta (abt. 1874). They and the children who were alive in 1870 are listed in Independence Township, Oakland County. Susan Sutton (born 2 May 1836) married Charles Beardslee (abt. 1837). They are also in Oakland County with Ada C. (abt. 1858), Anna Eliza (abt. 1860), Rowland (abt. 1862), Charles F. (abt. 1866), and Freddie (abt. 1869). I would also like to know the parents of Charles and Ebenezer Beardslee. Was this a case of brothers marrying sisters? Hope this is helpful. Carol Ann
