I've tracked several of my family members through Chemung County, NY and then on to Michigan. If any of you have relatives who moved to Michigan in the mid 1800s, the Library of Michigan has almost all of the 1870 census for Michigan online at http://envoy.libraryofmichigan.org/1870_census/. They add additional pages regularly and the goal is to have the entire census up. The search feature works pretty well and it has helped me find Roricks, Ayers, Van Sickles, Beardslees, Shaugers, Moores, and others from Sussex County who emigrated there. It saved me at least a day's worth of work at the National Archives. Just thought this might be helpful to someone.
