I sure wish I could tell you I had something on Abbie but I don't. I just have started extending what info my Great Aunt had left for me. This is the family of My 3rd Great Grandmother on my father's side. Anyway Isiah Bennett and Abigail Smith were my 4th great Grandparents. This is all I have and I am looking to add more as I find it. If I find something I will be glad to pass it on. Thanks for what you have sent. There was someone at the Sussex Co Hist. Soc. who was copying all the deeds and transations for Sussex co.for as far back as there were records. It may be on their web site. Or maybe Nancy knows if they are available on line. Do you have any indication this "Bennett" name might ever have been "Burnett"? I have in one history that in 1660 three Burnet brothers came from Wales to the Colonies. One of the brothers settled in NJ. Out of this line was an Edmund Burnet b. 01/01/1755 in NJ. He married Sarah Smith in 1780. It goes on to say their third child, a male, Serenus Burnet, was born in Trumbull Co., OH 11/13/1787. S. Ann or others looking over her shoulder: I am trying to sort out my Abraham Smith/Isaac Smith of Fredon in Stillwater Township (originally Hardwick), Sussex County, from a family of Abraham Smiths in the Knowlton-Oxford area. (Actually Isaac came from Oxford in 1801-03 to Fredon so maybe my Abraham did as well, but no courthouse evidence yet.) There may or may not be a connection between the Abraham's, but that aside, I was intrigued by your inquiry on Bennet because of the intermarriage to Abrigal Smith and the child named Abraham Smith Bennet. Howell's are also in dee ds with an Abraham Smith: 1805 Bk M 1805 (FHL #959653) Levi Howell and others to Abraham Smith p 127. 8 April 1805 between Levi Howell and Phebe Howell, his wife, late Phebe Smith, daughter of Benjamin Smith, Jr, deceased, Jacob Hazen and Ann, his wife, late Ann Smith and daughter of said Benjamin Smith, Jr, dec, of Hardwick in the Co of Sussex, NJ, of the first part, and Abraham Smith of Knowlton in the County of Sussex, NJ of the second part. The party of the first part being heirs and ligates of the deceased Benjamin Smith, Jr, for the sum of $100 convey to Abraham Smith all that plantation owned by Benjamin Smith. (does not say where situated but transfers interests no matter whether specified or not) Witnessed by Ezekiel Hazen and Ann Smyth. Recorded 12 April 1805 by Jacob L. Thomson, Clk. Do you have any lineage on Abrigal Smith who married the Bennet? If may help me in my efforts and it would be appreciated. One clue, the Abraham Smith from Knowlton Township was a Captain in a Pennsylvania Revolutionary War unit and some of his land deeds use the title Captain or Major. My Abraham was a private in the War of 1812. Thanks. Dan On 1/14/07, Ann Brown <cookiebrown11@gmail.com> wrote: > > I do not have towns information. I had a Great Aunt who left me all her > notes. Recently rec'd. obit. for (Susan) Matilda SICKLES STOUT, a sister of my great-grandmother, Lydia Jane SICKLES QUAIL. When Matilda died in Oct., 1932, her sister Rosetta was listed as a survivor, "Mrs. Rosetta Cooper, of near Andover." Actually at this time, Rosetta was the widow of Nelson MAINES. Does anyone have an obit for Rosetta, or her date of death? Also, looking for email addr. for Ally Cooper Bigos, a descendant of Rosetta. The one I have is not correct. Many thanks! Cathi, Thank you for this McConnell post. I have seen the file in question before, and it is very interesting. Sadly, his pension application file restates the following testimony given by John, "That by reason of his old age and the infirmities with which he has been severely afflicted for many years, and the consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively as to the precise length of his service after the first period of six months..." In the end, his pension application was rejected for lack of evidence in spite of his disabilities of blindness and near deafness. I haven't checked out his service history, but I think that the service he claimed and later correspondents claimed for him can be substantiated by service records. At the time of his application, he did not know of anyone living near him that could substantiate his claims. After your recent post, I did discover another bit of information about another individual who may be a direct ancestor of mine in Heritage Quest's database of Revolutionary War information.I knew about that database, but had somehow forgotten to try looking up that particular person. With so many resources out there, it is easy to forget one sometimes! Thank you for the reminder. I always appreciate seeing general information and McConnell information posted. That reminds me. Thank you for sharing the obits on the same pages as your Kinney obits with Nancy. She shared a couple of McConnell obits from among them. Happy hunting! Pat, The map was in a folder with copies of other maps that was in a local library. There's no mention of where it came from and it doesn't give any year so it's as much a mystery to me as to you. Someone else on the list suggested c1840 based on the towns listed. I see the Delaware River clearly marked on it. Do you happen to know where might the Raritan River might be located relative to the Delaware. In the John READING family history on the Internet, it references that John READING, John MILLS, and other men were sent out to do a survey in 1703, of 150,000 acres. I am curious who was this John MILLS and what was his relationship to John READING, Sr., and John READING, Governor of New Jersey. Is this a map someone just drew recently or is a copy of some obscure from a library? Just curious. Thank you. Pat cw -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Greetings, Here is a breif explantion of the Rev. War files available through HeritageQuest. "Selected Records from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land-Warrant Application Files Introduction On the rolls of this microfilm publication are reproduced selected genealogical records from an estimated 80,000 pension and bounty-land-warrant application files based on the participation of American military, naval, and marine officers and enlisted men in the Revolutionary War. Most of the records are dated between 1800 and 1900. The files are part of Record Group 15, Records of the Veteran Administration. " The microfilm series for these records, available through the US National Archives is Series M805. They should be available by inter-library loan through your library. For a LIMITED time, I will take names of your Revolutionary War soldiers from Sussex county and who survived into the 1800's. I will check to see if there is a file on that person available through HeritageQuest. Occassionally the file is under the surviving widow's name so send a spouse's name is you have it. Hi Sue: Thank you. I forgot to note that the survey was on land between the Delaware and the Raritan Rivers by John MILLS, John READING and another man. Noted in the John READING family history posted on the Internet. There were actually two references listed, it is the second one, that has the John MILLS reference. Thank you again. Pat cw
