    3. Karen, Thank you for your generous sharing. The story about Robert Quayle standing on the top of a train and hitting a bridge is one I have also heard about another relative. My relative survived but was permanently disabled. I am wondering how William Mooney connects with others. Do you think that he is a descendant of Lydia Tillotson and Andrew Mooney? 3. Hi to all of you, I am glad to see all the great posts and that Karen and Shirley are communicating about their Sickles families. Den Graham is yet another of my McConnell descendants and I have copies of the birth return for him, the marriage certificates for his two marriages, including the first to Stella Quail, his WWI draft registration, and death certificates for Den and Stella. Den and Stella were married April 27, 1895, and the certificate does list Robert Quail and Lydia J. Sickles as her parents. John J Shay and Elizabeth Quail were witnesses. J. E. Appley Pastor of the M.E. Church performed the marriage in Port Morris. Coming at Dennis Graham as a McConnell descendant, I actually first thought that he was a Morgan, the son of his mother Mary McConnell and her husband William Morgan because I found him with them in the 1880 and 1900 censuses as a Morgan. So if anyone else out there has found him hard to find in the census, that is why. Dennis was born October 3, 1874 to Edward Albert Graham and Mary (McConnell) Graham. Edward was out of the picture by late 1876 when Mary was married to William Morgan. William died December 30, 1901 and Mary was also the wife of Frank Guinan. The relationships get rather complicated in this family! Kirsten On Wed, 21 Mar 2007 20:00:50 -0400, BestGeneaology wrote > I have Elizabeth married to William Shay. Stella married to Den > Graham. 3. Hi, Karen and List, Thank you for these postings. I had the one for Lydia Jane, my great-grandmother, but not the one for her son Robert. FYI the son mentioned in the obit. was Fred QUAIL (my grandfather), not Fred SHAY. Robert Quail's youngest son, Adin R. (known as "Jim") QUAIL just passed away this past Oct. 31. He was only a small child when his father died but told me that he received a pass to ride the railroad for free, and the offer of a job on the RR when he was old enough. My great-grandmother was ill with cancer when her son Robert died, and Jim said she went out on the lawn at the side of her house in Port Morris to watch his funeral procession go up the hill. She had already lost two other sons and a daughter. Many thanks, Shirley in Ohio, but from NJ

    3. I also believe the one about Mrs. Matilda Pierce is incorrect. Lambert Riker is living in Chester in 1880 and has a dau, Matilda. He was likely her father, not her father-in-law. Someone previously ran the article about the Forcite Powder explosion which listed the men killed in that accident. Perhaps they would be willing to run it again. 3. I think the Stanhope Eagle obit is incorrect "Fred Shay" should be Fred Quayle/Quail who died in 1937. I am going to try another newspaper for an obit. Mrs. William Shay could be Elizabeth or Stella. Also questionable is Warren Quayle/Quail born May 1873. Lydia Jane married Robert in 1875?? Then there is Rosella vs Rosetta. 3. Stanhope Eagle newspaper published weekly on Wednesday in Stanhope, New Jersey Weds. 21 Jul 1892 - Mrs. Mary PIERCE, widow of the Forcite Powder explosion, is to open an ice cream saloon soon. Weds. 21 Dec 1892 - Gabriel L. DUNNING, father-in-law of Judge Samuel T. SMITH of Waterloo, died at the home of his daughter in Hamburg on Weds. last aged 88 years. Weds. 4 Jan 1893 - Harry VALENTINE of Succasunna and Miss Edith C. PRUDEN of Mount Freedom were married at the home of the bride's parents on Saturday of a week ago. The remains of 157 bodies have been removed from the old First Presbyterian Church yard in Morristown to make room for the new church. Three will be transported to Evergreen while the remainder will be reburied in the same graveyard. The oldest tombstone says 1720. Miss Mertie DECKER of Deckertown was visiting with her uncle Ira B. VANSYCKLE. Weds. 11 Jan 1893 - John S. McMASTERS of Jersey City, formerly of Dover, wil be the new Governor's private secretary under the new administration. Weds. 18 Jan 1893 - Susan, wife of Silas H. HOPKINS, died near Ionia on Friday. She was the mother of Mrs. Amos CHAMBERLAIN and was in her 76th year. Last year the couple had marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Weds. 19 Apr 1893 - Andrew BEST died Monday of last week, lived in the Parker Building with two unmarried daughters, aged 79 years. He was the father of 11 children. There are seven chlidren, 31 grandchildren and 28 great- grandchildren surviving. Miss Lizzie SICKLES, of Port Morris, returned home from Phillipsburg where she had been spending several months. Weds. 10 May 1893 - Mrs. James W. SMITH fell down cellar stairs and sustained many injuries including a broken arm. Daniel SICKLES, of Paterson, has returned home to his parents on Saturday. He had given up his position three months ago and, due to ill health, he hasn't worked since. George SICKLES, who lives in Sparta township between Amity and Sparta, was killed today after falling off a manure truck. He is uncle to Lemuel SICKLES in H. A. TIMBRELLs store. Weds. 9 Aug 1893 - Mrs. Rachel SMITH, oldest living citizen of Blairstown, died on July 31st aged 96 years, 8 months and 19 days. Her father, George F. SNOVER Sr. lived to the age of 70 years, her mother lived to 93 years. Her three brothers and eight sisters also lived to be very old. Weds. 6 Sep 1893 - Port Morris - Two married men of this place, an engineer and a conductor, started out a few evenings ago with the intent of having a good time. The wife of one of these gentlemen concluded that something was not right, removed her shoes to start out to watch them. She had gone but a short distance when she heard voices and creeping nearer, saw her dear hubby and his chum hugging and kissing two ladies whose character could stand considerable whitewash. She stepped out and confronted them. A stormy scene followed which aroused the neighbors who had previously been abed and here and there could be seen a head popping from the windows to see what had caused all the trouble. We trust the lesson learned by these two men will be of profit to them especially the one who has been heard to criticise the actions of others. Weds. 4 Oct 1893 - Mrs. Matilda PIERCE, who had been riding the merry-go-round these two or three days past, was complaining of a violent headache. She reached home at her father-in-law's Lambert RIKER's where she took a small portion of laudanum and took a rest. She awoke having very heavy breathing such that her corset was cut off and Dr. NELDEN was called. She died some 20 minutes after his arrival. Several friends were heard to have made comments not favorable to the operation of the merry-go-round. Mrs. PIERCEs husband was blown up in the Forcite Powder explosion. She leaves a bright little daughter behind. Hope this helps someone, Cathy

    3. Nancy, Have you learned if the Parr family and the Pars(e) family were of the same lineage as the Parse family were evidently original settlers in Scotch Plains, Essex Co., where is located the "Notch" through the Blue Mountains leading to Sussex Co.? 3. Karen, You're welcome, and thank you also for sharing. That includes your pointing out the result of your calculation. I just double-checked the certificate, which states that Elizabeth died in 1899, not 1889. So she was b abt 26 Sep 1825. I e-mailed Nancy so that she can correct the error. I submitted that info a while ago, so I'm not sure whether it is her error or mine. Of course this Elizabeth's father is still too old to be your George, though I guess he might be your Jacob's father. I found that I had not taken very many notes on Sickles families, and what Sickles I did find didn't seem to connect, at least not right off the bat. I did find a July 1871 marriage of Zackariah Cooper of BTown and Sarah E Sickles of Stanhope in Independence Twp Warren Co. There was also a marriage of Mary E and William Weller. The parents' column for that sheet seems to give her parents' names - Samuel and Eliza Sickle. I think that marriage took place in 1876. I think I found one Vansickle(s) marriage and one Stickle(s) marriage. More details if you want. I did also find a couple of births after 1867, though didn't recognize any of them as relating to your Sickles. The same goes for deaths.
