    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] THOMPSON/VANDERHOOF
    2. John THOMPSON and Temperance J. VANDERHOOF/VANDERHUFF were married in Sussex Co., 10 March 1870. Does anyone have access to any marriage record concerning this couple, as to where the marriage took place and by whom? There were two children born to this marriage, according to the 1900 census, but none living. Does anyone have knowledge as to the names of these children, where buried, etc. Temperance J. was born Feb. 1827 and may have died 1917. She was the daughter of Jacob A. VANDERHOOF and Elizabeth SWAN. Temperance was one of at least 10 children. John was born October 1819 in Middletown, NY. Does anyone know parentage? His date and place of death? Any help will be most appreciated. Thank you. Mona in Richmond, IN

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] ALLENTON
    2. Looking for any information on ALLENTONs or ALLINGTONs (and various creative spellings- maybe ALLENSON, etc.) from the 1790s-1830s. There were Benjamin and Daniel, maybe also others. Benjamin ALLEN died 1828. His father died when Benj. was young (supposedly). Benjamin's children spelled the name ALLEN and ALLING. -Michelle DeRemer

    3. It's been a while since I posted. I'm still looking for any information anyone may have on James Kays b.November 23, 1833 in Sussex County, NJ d.August 31, 1914 in Frankford Township, Sussex County, NJ. m.Sarah Robbins b.February 27, 1836 in Sussex County, NJ d.December 30, 1903 Frankford Township, Sussex County, NJ. I've come across information that he may have had a brother Amos Kays, and one named Anthony Kays. The father of Amos Kays is John Kays. According to Amos's obit he lived in PA and traveled by train every year to visit Newton. My thoughts were that Amos was probably visiting family. I did find a John Kays, Jr. living in Newton in 1830, and in 1840 and he had sons the right age for Amos and James. I'm trying to find who James parent's were, or at least who his father was. James left no will, no land deed, there is no death certificate to be found in Trenton, his obit was no help. I'm stumped and any help and/or suggestions would be very welcome. TIA Jo-Anne Price

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] Images - Photographs of 1800's Sussex Businessmen
    2. Mark Forder
    3. Hello Everyone, I just scanned in a few more images that are somewhat different than what you see on my page. The images are of copper engraving plates which were used as a photo negative in the 1800's. There are copper plates of 8 different individuals from Sussex County including Charles Steel. The problem with viewing them is that it's a negative so what I've done is scanned them in, created a reverse negative, and made them black and white. The result was something that looked like an actual photogragh. The next step is to identify who these people are, if you have any ide please let me know. This is what the copper plate looks like... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450h1.JPG And this is it after it's been enhanced... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450h.JPG Here are links to the remaining images... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450a.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450b.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450c.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450d.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450e.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450f.JPG http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450g.JPG Hope you find a relative amongst them. ---Mark http://home.att.net/~mforder

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] McDuffe
    2. I have a note that says: Neal McDuffy was Int. andministrator for the estate of Neal McQuig of Hardyston, Sussex County, New Jersey, taken from the NJ Calendar of Wills, 1701-1795, page 244. How do I find Neal McDuffy? I have tried to find Neal McDuffy in the censuses of NJ and can't find him. He is my husband's ancestor. He moved to Ontario, Canada in the 1820's. Does anyone know how I can possibly check Tax Rolls for 1790 to 1820 to see if he owned land here in NJ? His youngest child, DANIEL was born in NJ in 1812. How can I find his birth record? Would appreciate any help I can get on this matter. Thank you kindly. Betty MacDuff The Villages, FL 32159

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] McDaniels
    2. Joseph Hayes
    3. I'd like to talk with anyone researching the McDANIELS family in Sussex county. Grant McDANIELS (my GG-grandfather) was born in December 1860 in Pennsylvania. He married Rosanna <Unknown> about 1883. I found a Grant in the 1870 Luzerne County, Pennsylvania census. John McDannels, age 60, born in NJ Susanah -, age 51, born in NY Samantha -, age 9, born in PA Grant -, age 11, born in PA Also listed in the same house, but as another family are: John McDanels, age 24, born in NJ Emiley -, age 21, born in PA I suspect John Sr, Susanah, and John Jr may be part of the large migration of McDaniels from Sussex County, NJ to Luzerne County, PA. 3. Hello Everyone, ( I had prolems sending the first time) I know that this is "off topic" message but am looking for some help. I received an email regarding my page and it's it was a bit upsetting. Someone is accusing me of "False Advertising", as well as "Snaring / Misleading" people to my page for commercial purposes. I can 100% honestly say that I haven't sold one single item from the box. It's completey intact and it has actually cost me time an money to maintain it which I am happy to put forth. I have posted a message on my message board addressing this and have also followed up via an email to the individual. If you have a moment please add your comments and if you feel like it there is a link to an email address at the bottom of the message as well. http://www.insidetheweb.com/messageboard/mbs.cgi?acct=mb1029713&MyNum=957403747&P=No&TL=957403747 Again, please let me apologize for this request but I need to let these people know. 1. [NJSUSSEX-L] Loyalist Inquisition 20 Jun 1778
    2. Catherine Di Pietro
    3. Greetings, In the course of studying why so many folks moved from Greenwich, Oxford and Knowlton in Sussex/Warren county NJ to the Sunbury area of Northumberland, PA in the late 1700's - I found this list which may be of assistance to some: New Jersey Archives Second Series Newspaper Extracts Vol II 1778 pp 434-5 Whereas Inquisitions were found the 20th day of June 1778, against the following persons who have joined, aided, or assisted the army of the King of Great Britian in the present war against the American States, viz. Joseph Beer, Christopher Inslee, James Stewart, George Myer, William Carrel, John Kitchen, Philip Kline, sen. Andrew Kitchen, Ozias Park, Henry Mills, Jacob Inslee, Philip Kline, jun. William Schooley, Andrew Schooley, William Millack, Jacob Kline, late of Greenwich, Philip Kickline, Robert Goodwin, Peter Appleman, Conrood Rightmyer, John Waddington, Ludwick Wessigh, David Young, Barnabas Banghart, Joseph Lowery sen., Joseph Lowery, jun. John Rice, William Rice, Isaac Amerman, Ruelin Green, Philip Force, William Ickler, John Smith, sen. John Smith, jun. Michael Lemmon, John M'Eowin, late of Oxford, James Moody, Richard Mountin, John Dunfield, Peter Anderson, Ozias Inslee, Thomas Richardson, James Mordan, John Ansley, William Hucheson, John Cummins, Christopher Young, James Briton, James Blain, Benjamin Harned, William Briton, John Whilenack, Obadiah Hoaglin, Matthias Zimmerman, John Clendenan, Christopher Hoofman, John Hecheson, Cornelius Duggon, late of Knowlton, William Dedman, John Gorman, William Park, Robert Thompson, Thomas Turpan, late of Mansfieldwoodhouse, in the county of Sussex; which inquisitions were returned at the last session holden in said county, and proclaimations made in open court according to the law; and if persons against whom inquisitions have been so found, or some person in their behalf, will not appear at the next court holden in the aforesaid county, and traverse the inquisitions, final judgement will be thereupon be entered in favour of the State. (in other words, guilty until proven innocent) Given under our hands this 5th day of September, 1778. William Bond, George Warner - Commissioners. If anyone has more information to share on this migration, please post it to the list. I've found mention of a Conewago settlement in Pennsylvania of a similar group of folks from Hunterdon, Sussex and Bergen counties. They may have stopped off in the Albany area of New York before going south to Northumberland (later Montour and Columbia) county in PA. Some migrated further into VA and NC as well as north to Ontario, Canada. Any Thoughts? Cathy DiPietro vdpcom@warwick.net listowner NJSussex-L

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] BALL Family Members
    2. Hi All, I'm looking for any info about Ezra BALL who died in Knowlton, Sussex Co(now Warren Co.) before Aug 1764. He was a tailor or shoemaker. The administrator of his estate was Isaiah BALL who got a tavern licence in Sussex Co. in 1755 and was a partner of Ezra. He later ran a tavern in Washington Co., Pa about 1780. Another partner of Ezra was Zopher BALL(1724-1803) who later also lived in Washington Co., Pa and was a soldier and farmer. These men were in the Knowlton area in 1764 and they could have been born in Morris ( the predecessor) county. Thanks Bill Slager, wslager@alum.mit.edu

    2. Help solve a mystery (or mis-information): Does anyone have any information on M.B. Quick or Sarah Ingersoll (born 5 aug 1812 in Lafayette, Sussex, NJ)? My GGGGranparents were Nathan Goble/Gable Snover and Lucreatia Ingersoll. They were born in Sussex, NJ and migrated to Tioga County, PA. On several GENCom Lucreatia is listed as being married to M.B. Quick and Sarah Ingersoll, her sister is listed as being married to Nathan Snover. I have photos of Nathan and Lucreatia taken in Sussex NJ in the 1800's. Nathan and Lucreatia are listed as husband and wife on the 1850 Richmond PA Census. Nathan and Lucreatia are buried together in the Prospect Cemetery in Richmond, Tioga, PA. Her headstone states that she was the "Wife of Nathan". I am guessing that Sarah Ingersoll was married to M.B. Quick, not Lucreatia and the author inadvertenly switched the two names. Paula
