    2. Paul Thompson
    3. Hi Laurie, Thank you very much for your message about Hannah Jane Culver. The reason I had 1828 as her birth date comes from the 1870 Census of Wantage Twp giving her age as 42. As far as I know all eight children were born in Wantage Twp Sussex Co NJ. Daniel was born and died there. I do not know in which cemetery he is buried. The eight children are: Laura J. b 18 Apr 1851, Edward b ca 1852, Edwin F. b 27 March 1857, Clarence T. b 20 Jan 1860, Clara b 1860 (twin?), Ida A. b 23 Aug 1862, Lenora, b 23 Aug 1862 and Estell b 26 Jan (no year). The only information I have on the children is that Clarence T. m Mary De Will and had a child Clarence D. (probably De Will) Van Sickle. In 1937 Clarence D. lived in Belleville, NJ. In 1937 Clarence T. lived in Newton, New Jersey. Any addition information would be appreciated. I note a post you made to the NYFingerLakes list at Rootsweb in early April. I note that you said they had eight children and wonder if you would share with me? Obviously, I have nothing more on this family than the lisiting given in the one source. Do you know where they lived, when & where they died, etc. Marriages for the younger children of Daniel & Hannah/Jane? Hoping we can help each other! Laurie mailto:light30@earthlink.net ps I've added your name & e-mail address to my database under the notes for Daniel & Hannah's family. That way, should more information come to me later on this family, I'll be able to send it out to you then! <

However, the books/documents are right there. You look it up in an index of sorts and give the source to the clerk. They will find the book, mark the page it's located, and give it to you. Takes about 20 minutes depending on the workload. I believe there is a good reason - to prevent people from leafing through the books thus causing them to deteriorate faster. Also, in some cases, the information is restricted (like adoptees birth records) and this way there is some control. It's a little inconvenient, but I think its a worthy practice to protect those sources. When it's in a different location, that's a bit more than inconvenient. At least the information is available to you ---- it could be worse! Good Luck Rich in NH

    3. Don't want to start an "offtopic" thread here but just an observation: Noted a couple of Roots-L folks commenting on the recent viral unpleasantness and the implication that the iMACs are/were immune. Please don't get complacent! This time the MAC community lucked out for the most part. My cube neighbor and I use the only imacs in the department. She saw the critter twice in her email box and even opened it once. Fortunately the trigger did not activate (that we know of). Some of the local PC users did not fare so well. This incident apparently was pretty much restricted to systems that use a specific OS, browser, and MSWord. As far as I know Unix, Solaris, and the other "specialty" OS were not affected (or INfected). MACs are VERY susceptible to virus infections and you must take the same precautions (like keeping your virus definitions current) as the PCs. I agree that it's a good system but it's certainly not immune from the bad stuff. Now back to the exciting adventure........ Rich in NH

    3. Dear Fred, I was at the Hall of Records in Newton about a month ago and encountered the same problem. I needed a mortgage record which had been moved to another location. Their new location is in a building located behind the Sussex Library located at the Homestead Complex. (Sussex residents, if I have the name wrong, please let me know.) However, they are not accessible at this time since they are still packed up since the new location is still under construction. A very helpful man named Richard helped me find out about them. He told me that researchers will not be able to go to the new location to view the records but will have to request them first from the Hall of Records and I suppose wait for them to be sent to Newton. Sorry, I know this is not what you wanted to hear. Personally, I am waiting for the summer and will call well in advance and see what can be arranged. B. 1. [NJSUSSEX-L] David Baxter & Margaret MacMurtry
    2. Julie
    3. Hi all, I am looking for information on these two famous people (I don't know that they are that famous) but these two who lived in New Jersey and married, David Baxter wanted a divorce which didn't sit to well with the state. In an article that I read it said: During the Provincial and Colonial Periods in New Jersey, divorces were granted, if at all, by the Govenor, presumely in his capacity as Chancellor. The first exception to this practice was in 1772 when the legislature passed "An Act to Dissolve the Marriage of David Baxter with Margaret, his wife, late Margaret MacMurtry." This was such a radical departure from English precedent that the king not only disallowed the Act (Sept 1, 1773), but on Nov. 24, 1773, instructed all the Govenors in North America "that you do not upon any pretense whatsoever give your assent to any Bill or Bills...for the divorce of persons joined together in Holy Marriage". I would like to know who David's parents are and what years these two were born. thanks julie

One of the guys at the courthouse thought those early records are kept in the town of Red Bank New Jersey. But I have been unable to locate a name, address, or phone number. Any ideas?? 2. Hello list, Does anyone know anything about a town called Hardyston, or maybe Hardyslon in Sussex County? It does not appear on today's map. Is this one that possibly had its name changed over the years? Does anyone know anything about the town of McAfee near Sussex? I am looking for McDuffe(e) or McDuffy ancestors who lived in Sussex. It is possible that McAfee is a variation spelling of McDuffe(e) in the British Isles. Does anyone have a telephone number for the County Clerk's office in Sussex? Thanks. 1. Re: [NJSUSSEX-L] "Sisco" Family ca.
    2. I am trying to locate the family of a MARY SISCO probably born in Sussex Co. in the very late 1700's or early 1800's. Mary married Henry Miller who may have been born in Goshen, Orange Co., NY. We don't know where Henry and Mary were married, or when. Nor do we know the parents of either. Our information is very scant. At some point, Henry and Mary crossed the Delaware River and moved into (currently) Pike Co., PA. Not knowing their religious affiliation, we don't know if the naming pattern of their children would have any bearing as it is in the Dutch families of that time period. Know children with no particular birth order were: David, William, Eliza, Margaret, Daniel, Katherine, Peter, twins John & Henry born 1833 in PA and Mary born 1735, probably PA also. Any small clue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cynthia

This was filled out and signed on May 22, 1937. Does anyone on the list know if there is a address to write to for any records that might be available through the federal government for his employment with the WPA? We have hit a brick wall on him and I'm trying to find any clue to break through. Karl N. Harring Fort Lauderdale, FL

McCabe and were the primary source for the information,(the gentleman sitting is Damian Broda). This is Henry C. Bunnell... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450a.JPG There are two other faces which are pictured in this book as well that match the images. It looks like they were part of the Newton Steamer Company. This gentleman was the Chief.. http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450h.JPG This gentleman was in the same photo, (only younger) in the background... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450d.JPG if it's not him then he must be a relative. I think this might be Lewis Morford, there's a picture of him when he was younger in the book and this image... http://home.att.net/~mforder02/mark450b.JPG looks very much like him only older. The first image I'm pretty sure of, the remaing are just speculation. Thanks again, ---Mark
