    3. Found this today at ROOTS-L Digest Vol. #439. They don't seem to be any of my family, but thought maybe somebody might know. X-Message: #16 Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2000 12:03:37 -0400 From: "Tabitha Davis" <mmdavis@hspower.com> Subject: RUDE/HANN family of New Jersey Hello, I am having problems tracing my RUDE family connections of New Jersey. I'm hoping that someone reading this can help me piece it together and fill in the blanks. If you recognize any of these names, please contact me. My email address is mmdavis@hspower.com. I recently spoke with my grandfather, HARRY FISHER RUDE, born in 1917 in Plainfield, New Jersey. I'm not sure which county, as I have found it listed in several. His parents were PETER ALVAH RUDE (5 Dec 1884, NJ--28 Apr 1977, NJ) and IDA MAE HANN (2 Feb 1888--after 1945). This much we are pretty sure of. The rest that follows he wasn't absolutely positive of. Grandpa said the family was from Plainfield, and some from Old Germantown, which was later renamed Oldwick. PETER ALVAH RUDE was the son of WINFIELD RUDE, no dates known. I haven't found him listed anywhere on census records or anything else. I did find a marriage record that seems to have some significance, but I am not sure it ties in yet. In Sussex County, on 4 Jan 1827 a HENRY RUDE married MARY WINFIELD. From this I am currently assuming that these are my WINFIELD RUDE's parents, but am looking for some proof. I don't have access to the census records as I am in SC, but I am pretty sure that WINFIELD would have been shown as a child living with his parents on the 1860 and possibly 1850 census somewhere in NJ. Grandpa said he had two brothers. One was FRANCIS RUDE, who died at age nine months. The other was GEORGE RUDE, who was born in 1912 in NJ, and died in 1992 in Canada. GEORGE married a lady named JULIA. Grandpa also told me that his grandfather, WINFIELD RUDE had a half-brother named FRED RUDE ACKERMAN, who my father is named after, as well as having alot of other siblings. He didn't know whether his father PETER ALVAH RUDE had any siblings. FRED RUDE ACKERMAN sold insurance in Summerville, New Jersey. He also mentioned he had a first cousin in southern New Jersey named DOROTHY AMMERMAN who married a man named CHARLES. If any of this ties in with your family, please help me out. I don't have easy access to New Jersey records, and keep hitting brick walls. I am also looking for any information on the HANN side of the family. IDA MAE HANN's father was named SYLVESTER HANN. Thanks for your time!! Tabetha (Rude) Davis Saluda, SC mmdavis@hspower.com ---------------------------

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] HUNT, DAVID - Born: 1823, Father: HUNT, JACOB, Mother: PITTINGER,
    2. Barbara Houle
    3. According to info from Kindred Konnections info on JACOB HUNT; his wife, SUSANNA PITTINGER; Jacob's father EDWARD HUNT; and jacob's mother, HANNAH PIERSON can be found in Pioneer Families of Northwestern New Jersey, p 265-266 (FHL #978.97 D2a) and p. 263, 264, 265. Can anyone check these references for me? I'm trying to locate father of DAVID HUNT, b. 1823. The info gives David's date of birth (in the right year) but his ancestors don't jobe with other info I have received. The info came from Kindred Konnections Individual Record m7669769 at http://209.140.72.162/cgi-bin/genealogy/kkingv?93392+961953119+N3813+37+97+English+0 Edward's date of birth and wife don't agree with other info I have on the Ralph Hunt line. 1. [NJSUSSEX-L] Can you help solve the LANCE family mystery?
    2. Records from two publications indicate that John Peter LANCE b 1708 Germany, d 1771 NJ, came to America about 1738. There is an indication that ANTHONY LANCE b1798 d 1835 is a decendant of John Peter ANTHONY appears to have had only two children, John and Jacob. No records seem to exist for their marriages or offspring. Best guesses on dates of birth for the two boys is between 1820 and 1825. William LANCE, b 1820 married a CHARLOTTE or SHARLOTTE of unknown last name. Willim's first son, b 1852 in or near Blairstown, NJ was ANTHONY LANCE. There appears a connection between these men,but I've yet to establish it. Any help much appreciated. Laurence Lance Seattle

I especially enjoyed the section on the history of the Sussex Co. Court House. My Revolutionary ancestor, Capt. Conrad Gontterman, commanded guard over Continental prisoners on and off at the court house over the period of Jan. 27, 1777 - Dec. 20th, 1779 as well as serving in the Battle of Germantown, Elizabethtown, at Minisink and along the Delaware. He resigned from the Sussex Co. Militia in 1788. Viewing the picture of the first Court house I could imagine Conrad keeping guard at the jail/gaol door under the steps of the court house. Thanks again for sharing! Sheryl Gunderman Robinson

    3. 24 June, 2000 Hello, Could someone please answer a question for me regarding the Genealogy Magazine of New Jersey. I need to know either: (1) When did publication begin? -or- (2) What is the volume number for the year, 1930? On the Sussex County GenWeb Site, cemetery records of interest to me are listed as being published in the magazine beginning Jan., 1930. The LDS films for the magazine are organized by volume numbers, not years. There are four films for the 43 volumes. You see the problem. I'd rather order one film than four films. TIA, very much. 2. Hello searchers: I have been transcribing the 1880 Federal census for the GenWeb project also. I now have 5 completed with Mz Cathi Di Pietro proofing my Andover Twp. I need to get Byram,Green,Frankford and Hampton proofed so they can be put online. I can send as a Excel file, or as a "hard" paper copy. The Excel copy is laid out like the page with all columns presented. The Hard copy is printed the same. So you can follow the whole entry across in the original as well as the transcribed presentation. After I get back the proofs, the sheet will also include the proofreader and date in the final submission to the GenWeb Project. Thank you for reading, Respectfully Keith W Brown Indianapolis, IN http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/b/r/o/Keith-W-Brown
