Ancestry.com has free for 10 days NJ marriages. I believe most are on various Sussex Co.,NJ web pages, however there are a few I haven't seen. Can anyone tell me at what church these Sussex Co.,NJ marriages are recorded? They are in the same area as my John & Mary Clark Courtright & I'm unable to connect them to the other Courtrights. Dear Carol and All, The archives of every list hosted by Rootsweb can be accessed and searches by going here - http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl on this screen, put in the name of the mailing list - NJSussex (or any others like NJWarren, Dutch-Colonies, NJMorris, surname lists, etc.) On the next screen, enter the search word/name or date (you will have to check multiple spellings separately as this is not a partial word search i.e. putting in "Dec" will only search for "Dec" not "Decker") Choose a year to search (remember to come back to this screen to check the other years as well) On the next screen, Rootsweb will display the post postings containing your search word - click on [full] to view the complete original posting.....good luck. I have traced a number of LANCE ancestors to Blairstown. In my research I find people of the same name in Chester twp. Is this a close location to Blairstown? Thank you. Laurence Seattle
Harriet (CRABTREE) GARDNER (d. 1906, Sussex Co., NJ) in the settlement of her estate, which took place several years later, her four children were mentioned. Harriet was the daughter of William CRABTREE and wife, Elizabeth McCONNELL. One of these children was Sorena GARDNER who married Nathan STACKHOUSE in the estate settlement of Harriet GARDNER. In researching Sussex Co. census records, I find a Nathan STACKHOUSE (b. about 1846) with a wife listed as Emily S. born about 1849. One census lists her name as Emily G. Could this be Emily Sorena GARDNER (married to Nathan STACKHOUSE)? I know of only two children: Harry STACKHOUSE (b. about 1887) and Frances C. STACKHOUSE, b. 1869. Does anyone have access to records that might give the parentage of Nathan STACKHOUSE? He and his family lived in Andover Twp. in Sussex Co. Can anyone help me with a marriage date for Nathan and spouse? Other children born to this couple? ANY help at all will be most appreciated. Thank you. In researching my John Courtright I have found several references to his wife as being Mary Clark. I know a John Courtright & Mary Clark were married 1797 in Stillwater in Sussex Co.,NJ. As most of you know John Howard Abbott was my first source for this marriage. However I've now found several other references that were written the same time period as Abbott, in other words they were not using each other as sources. So maybe Abbott was completely wrong abt my John, it seems only the ancestry was wrong. My question: IS it possible that the baptism (in 1807) of this couple's child Sara b. 1798 occurred in another church but was recorded in the church of her birth?? This couple had no other children baptised . Thanks, Cindy Cindy Torres Owens cindyo@va.prestige.net http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/o/w/e/Cindy-L-Owens/index.html
I am interested in the Myers family of Walpack, Sussex, NJ. Jacob was born about 1763 and married Sarah Cortright. Jacob died about 1850 and is buried with his wife on what is now called "The Jacob Roe Farm". Snell's History of Sussex says that Jacob came from Montague, however, I have not found any evidence to prove or disprove that fact. Sarah's parentage is also a mystery in that the Abbott book on the Cortrights show her as a daughter of Jacob Cortright and Jannetje Ennes. My research has not convinced me of this, even though the Minisink Church records show a baptism for a Sarah, daughter of Jacob Cortright and Jannetje Ennes. Recently I found a likely candidate for Jacob's father in the IGI. The record shows that shows Jacob's father was a Jacob, who married a Roxanne. This was information provided in a temple submission, so it is not likely there is any more information or even a source for this. The reason this is a promising lead is that Jacob and Sarah named a daugher, Roxanne. And, if it is true that Jacob's parents are Jacob and Roxanne, I have pretty much established a pattern of names for all children, but 2. Those two are Abijah and Carlisle. I would really like to find someone else interested in these families. Allied Surnames are: Fuller, Losey, Rosencrance, Coss Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Patrice Houck Schadt

I have been looking for any descendents or possibly ancestors of Isaac Martin and Cattran?. Isaac Martin was living in Wantage, Sussex County, New Jersey in 1783 when he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wantage. Isaac is believed to be born sometime in the 1750's, where is unknown believed to be Hardyston Twp, Sussex County, New Jersey. He died in Cincinnati Ohio in 1802. The children of Isaac and Cattran Martin are: Abiah Byron Martin b. 1 January 1771 NJ Samuel Martin b. about 1770 NJ Evi Martin b. ? Isaac Martin b. 2 October 1779 Susannah Martin b. ? (possibly 1785) Me and others have hit a brick wall and want to know where these people came from, like what country did this family originate from, who are Isaac's parents, things like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a lot of information on Abiah Byron Martin descendents and some on Samuel and Isaac Martin. Am willing to share information. Thank you, Michelle Iowa
