A recent message from Anna LeBlanc raised the question of a Jacob Beam who left NJ for Canada. His birthyear of 1728 may place him in the following NJ family. I have considerable info on this Beam line for it is part of my direct ancestry and would appreciate any additional information or corrections. Kind regards, Myra E. Lane 1. Anthony Beam was born in Germany. He married Margaretha. Notes for Anthony Beam: The ancestor of the Beam family of the vicinity of Pompton was Anthony Beam. He came to this country from Germany and settled at an early day among the Indians of Wynoke. The tradition about the date of his settlement is conflicting, some say as early as 1660, but this is not likely and as near as we can judge about 1715 or 20. The place where he located as we have before stated was north of the Captain Beam place where he first built him a log house and afterwards a stone house which was the west end of the house owned by Captain Beam. Who his wife was we are not informed, only that her Christian name was Margaretha. - Rev. G.C. Schenck, Ca. 1886. Children of Anthony Beam and Margaretha are: 2 i. Yost2 Beam1, b. Abt. 17171; died Abt. 17941, m. Catharine SLOAT1. 3 ii. Conradt Beam, b. Abt. 1727; d. 11/29/1811 Pompton Twp, m. Maragrieta MEAD. 4 iii. Abraham Beam1, born Abt. 17301. He married Sarah MEAD1 3/31/1754 in Acq.. 5 iv. Angenietje Beam1, b. 1/14/1740-411, m. John BATROM; of Wynockie. 6 v. Annie Beam1. She married Pieter BEATIE; of Wynockie.

Since I heard from several people who thanked me for the newpaper deaths I sent in Sunday, I will submit the following from The Herald Democrat of Thursday, February 28, 1867 (I am researching the Slaght family from the Sussex County area). Hi, folks... I've greatly expanded the information about this church on my web site. It now includes baptisms from 1769 - 1848, funerals from 1838 - 1873, and those headstones which were still readable in about 1961. The listings for St. James Episcopal Church begin at http://raub-and-more.com/stjamesepis/stjames.htm The list is not included yet in my search engine; that's a job to be done in the wee small hours of the night, since I have to pull my web site while it's being scanned by the search engine. One of the families that were divided by the war was the Wintermute family. The Wintermute family settled in Sussex, NJ before 1745. Philip Wintermute moved to Wyoming Valley, PA with all but his oldest son who remained in Sussex, NJ. Philip built Fort Wintermoot. He and his six sons remained loyal to Britain and served in Butler Rangers. After the war they moved to Niagra Falls in Canada. Philip's son Lennard, brother George, nephew Frederick Snover fought against British rule. This information can be found on the Wintermute Organization Homepage at http://www.kern.com/maykoski/wintermute.htm and was provided by J. Kelsey Jones, a frequent contributor to this list. Hello All, Some years ago, one of my sad jobs as Property Manager of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark was to sell the property of this historic old parish church in the village of Delaware. At the time the parish had been closed for over twenty years. Robert S. Ethel, I'm not sure which list you read my message on, so am repling to all of them. I don't have either a Daniel or Frank Cortwright in the right time frame to be the ones you're looking for. I also have a Courtwright/Decker connection that I can't figure out. It's between Jacob V. Courtright , Peter DECKER & his wife Jane Westfall. All found together in the 1850 Huron Co.,OH census. Jacob V. Courtwright was the s/o my John Courtright b. 1774 & married 1797 Sussex Co.,NJ to Mary Clark. Jane Westfall was the d/o Simon Westfall & Esther Brink. Now as for your Nancy Decker, I have two but I have no marriages for them. First I have Nancy Decker b. 1791 d/o Leneert Decker & Eliza Randall. I also have a Nancy Decker who was a grandaughter of Leenert through his son William. She was born 1811. I don't have a birth place for these folks, this was from a file given to me years ago. Now the DeGarmo & Hedglin names are interesting. Do you think Hedglin is a variation of Hegelin? As in my previous post re: Susannah Hegelin & Jacob Courtright? I've followed up on myself & found many Hogland, etc's in my 1850 OH census index CD, some near my John Courtright. Bill DeGarmo has also posted on his line from Sussex co.,NJ to Washington Co.,PA area by 1800. I see lots of tangled line here, let's hope we can sort them! I am in the process of cleaning out my genealogy folders. Here are four short obituaries from The New Jersey Herald and Sussex County Democrat, Newton, NJ, Wednesday, October 1, 1879 September 21 in Mandarin, Floridaa Edward M. Dunn, son of the late Rev. Charles Dunn, aged about 50 years. September 28, in Brooklyn, NY, George Arthur Gardner, aged 50 years. September 28, in Lafayette, at the residence of her son in law John Sigler, Elizabeth Albert, aged 65 years. September 22, in Newton, Mrs. Hannah Mabee, wife of Jacob Mabee, aged 69 years. The death certificate for Mahlon K. Slaght states he died in Easton, Pa January15, 1916 and that he was buried in Newton, NJ January 18. I have notes (taken years ago before I had learned my lesson about citing sources, etc.) that read: Doc # 12115 Newton Cemetery Company to Mahlon K. Slaght and George E. Slaght "On Linden walk joining lot of Eliz. Haggerty on S. 12 feet front, 24 feet deed - 288 sq ft" I have this reference "Book L 11 or perhaps Book L II, page 379 Deeds Further, I have written 3/27/1916 1:36 PM. But no clue as to what that meant (too soon old - too late smart). I have visited the cemetery and found the Slaght plot. George (son of Mahlon) is buried there as are several other of the family. The gentleman in charge of the cemetery looked through his books but could find no reference to the burial of Mahlon K. Dr. Lawrence Slaght's book "Cornelius Baraentse Slecht and some of his Descendants" has a mere mention of Mahlon K. on page 74 (#986). I have considerable information on Mahlon's descendants and will be glad to share. Can anyone point me in the right direction for solving this dilemma? Floreda

Can anyone identify the Jacob Cortright listed below? I have found him in several files listed as either the s/o Abraham Kortright & Margriet Kuykendall or the s/o Jacob H. Cortright & Femmetje Denmark. I doubt he was the s/o the Abraham Kortright who was born 1706 for obvious reasons, however it does look like his parents would be Abraham & Margaret. Jacob H. Cortright & Femmetje Denmark could not be his parents either as they had a son named Jacob in 1800. It's very possible that this Jacob Cortright is the brother of my own mystery John Courtright, they moved to the same area of OH abt the same time. There was another Kitchen mentioned in Owen's book Pioneers of Long Point Settlement and that was the story of Joseph Kitchen, a Loyalist born in Newton, Sussex County. The chapter is titled: Walked 500 Miles to Tell his Friend He Was Converted - Deacon Kitchen. According to the book (based on lots of oral histories, bible records, and whether you paid, in advance, to purchase the book from Owen in 1898) Deacon Joseph Kitchen married Miriam Barber in 1809. They had 12 children: John, Egbert M, Charity, Jane, Mary Ann, Ruth, Cynthia, Martha, Hannah and three who died "in childhood." If anyone needs more information, please e-mail me and I'm happy to provide it. Kitchen lived in Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario. Ann
