Hello list- Does anyone know who OWNS the Deckertown/Union Cemetery (also known as Papakating Cemetery)? Is it owned by the county? Thanks, Lorie
Have ancestors William Sanford Decker who married 1st) Nancy B. Little, and 2nd) to Elvira Perrigo (daughter of John and Clarrisa Perrigo who were living in Vernon Twp. Sussex Co., NJ in the 1850 fed census). I am in need of info re: Wm Sanford Decker's parents. Sanford Decker's obituary in Iowa stated he was born 15 July 1815 in Hamburg, Hardyston Twp., Sussex Co., NJ and he died in Jefferson Twp., Poweshiek Co., IA 23 May 1900. It stated his wife, Elvira Perrigo, was from the same area. Does anyone have a connection or is researching a John and Clarrisa (Miller or Conklin) Perrigo? Have recently received some good Perrigo information from Nancy Paschal who researches the Sussex Co., area, but I need more varification as to the parents of my John Perrigo. Thanks you....any info please direct to sweeneygj@aol.com George Sweeney
I have found a Mrs P. Kittle. Anyone know who P. Kittle is? His wife would have been born 1837-1850? They were living in NJ in 1904. Thank you, sharon (:o)
Hi, Folks, I've posted the above cemetery to my web page. You can see it at http://RAUB-and-more.com/freeunioncem.html. I believe this is the Free Union Cemetery North of Mountain Lake Rd. (Rt. 617) on Marble Hill Rd., Liberty Township...but I'm not certain. I do know that it is next to Free Union Methodist Church. If anyone can confirm the location of this cemetery, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Jan Reuther

The children from WILLIAM GUNTERMAN's second marriage to MARY KISHPAUGH SIMMONS were a SAMUEL, (SUSAN SIMMONS) MARTHA (KITHCART), and JOHN. Some place in my files I have the children from MARY KISHPAUGH's first marriage. Hi, Folks, I've added this small cemetery in Sussex County to my web site. You can see it at http://raub-and-more.com/balesville.html. Also, for those of you interested in this sort of thing, my son, Scott, has achieved a dream of meeting Bono of U2. There's a photo of Scott with Bono at http://raub-and-more.com/narrative/narrative.html. Jan Reuther
Hi List In the Genealogical Helper it says "Earlier Records are kept in the Bureau of Archives and History Department of Education, State Street, Trenton, NJ. Records of deeds from 1664 to 1703 are in the NJ Archives, Vol XXI; from 1664 to 1790 in the Secretary of State's Office. What I would like to know is if these have ever been microfilmed or otherwise published somewhere? Has anyone ever searched these records? This might give me land records for my Thomas Harden as I cannot find anything at Newton. Thanks for any help. Connie Sorensen

Hello Everyone, Once again I was looking for 19th century documents on the web from NJ and I found this page http://www.philbansner.com/. Click on the tab at the top of the page that says "U.S. Postal History" this will bring you to another window where you can enter various search criteria. I entered "NJ." in the box named "text search" and it returned a few other states but if you page down you'll see a large number of items under "New Jersey". You can click on the "View Photo" hyperlink and it will bring you to the image. Click the "Go Back" hyperlink to return to your search results. Good luck and as always I hope this info helps. ---Mark http://homeatt.net/~mforder ...1800's Ephemera
Hi All Rick is correct. The old Beemerville Cemetery is across from Day care. It is on the corner of Rt 519 and Crigger Road. It is not marked and I only use the term old to differentiate it from the New Beemerville, which is just down Rt 519 about 1/2 mile on the other side of Space Farms. The Old Cemetery is mowed at least, but many of the Tombstones are broken and fallen over and the woodchucks are undermining the upright markers. It was neglected for many, many years. The cemetery is now being maintained by the Sheriff's Office SWAP Program. Unfortunately, there are no funds to repair tombstones, nor will there be until more people who are researching their anceastors, band together to have these old cemeteries declaried hitorical sites, before they are gone forever. The house next to this old cemetery, is the home of Mr. Space, and he told us a little bit of history concerning this cemetery. Evidently some time ago, a man was hired to fix the stone wall around the cemetery, which the man did. It was only afterward, it was discovered that the man had used tombstones to repair the wall. After, having been told of this event, we look more closely at the wall and sure enough there are tombstones there. So, if your missing an ancestor who should be here, now you know why you can't find them. The Cemetery on Rt. 637 (also known as Beemer Church Road) is the Beemerville Church Cemetery also know as the Beemerville Meeting house Cemetery. I live about 7 miles from all three cemeteries and have relatives in all of them. Harold
To All, My cousin is here and he lives in Sussex Co., NJ. He is part of a project that has been maintaining the cemeteries through the Sheriff's Office SWAP Program. The cemetery across from Space Farms musem (and Day Care Center) is known as Beemerville Cemetery. "Old Beemer Church Cemetery" is located on South side of 637 just east if Dalrymple road. This is a very small cemetery. The one on 519 behind the church in Beemerville is not named on my map. He will try to find out the name of that Cemetery. Nancy NilesRick@aol.com wrote: > > Greetings, > > If I may, my two cents worth on the Beemerville Cemetery(s). I visited Beemerville in late August during our annual trip back east from CA to visit family. I visited an 'unlabeled' cemetery right on 519 (west side) across the street from a Day Care (and possible church?) and maybe a 1/4 mile south of Space Farms. I'm not sure if this would be the 'old' one or the 'new' one. I didn't look for or find a second cemetery. The cemetery was overgrown by grass but not much brush. The iron gate through the stone wall surrounding the cemetery faced the road and it looked like it hadn't been opened in weeks if not months (lots of tall grass growing through it). The most recent markers I saw were from about 1905 with most from before 1850. I'm curious if anyone knows who 'owns' this cemetery. It looks like it is slowly fading away. > > Rick Novak

I seem to have confusion and I wonder if someone has the information that can straighten out my confusion. Edward MABEE of Beaver Run (1830-1914) married Mary E. HARDEN (1833-1912). I have a marriage date for them as 3 Dec. 1863. Is this correct? It can't be correct, because the 1880 census (Lafayette, Sussex Co.) lists John MABEE as son and age 25 years. That makes his birth date about 1854, right? Then in North Church Cemetery is a record of "Sarah MABEE, daughter of Edward and Mary, died 26 October 1851, aged 7 months." If that Sarah is the daughter of this Edward and Mary, then they would have to have been married by 1850 or 1851, right? And Mary would have only been 17 or 18 when married. That isn't impossible. Had Edward had been married previously and that wife had been named Mary, too? Not impossible, of course. Edward is buried in North Church Cemetery with granddaughter, Belle MABEE daughter of John MABEE and Cad ROE. She died 1891. But it seems that Mary MABEE was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in California. Can anyone help? Thanks. Mona in Indiana
Sounds like the one I visited in the 80's and at that time there were sheep pastured in the cemetery with the stone wall being the fence. This was the Old Beemerville Cemetery and the New Beemerville Cemetery was nearby and well maintained. The Old Beemerville was in deplorable condition. Incidentally, my Ayers ancestor Enoch Ayers has a marker there that was standing at the time, but it was not included in the listing that was done by someone in the past and that was supplied to me by the historical society. His wife Catherine Hoppaugh survived him and at her death was buried in the New Beemerville Cemetery. J.
