In the NY Biog. & Genea. Society's "Minisink Valley Reformed Dutch Church Records, 1716-1830" which retains original record spellings there are these additional variations of Titsworth: Ditsoort, Ditzoort, Tichort, Tietsoort, Titcherd, Titchsord and Tithoor but no listing for Elias. This book covers the churches of Minisink, Mackackemeck and Walpeck in the tri-state area of northwest Sussex, Pike Co, PA and Port Jervis, Orange CO., NY. Perhaps the spellings starting with "D" will give you new avenues to explore? Good Luck, Cathy DiPietro listowner NJSussex-L

Good Election Morning to all! I have a Van Garden/Gorden question. In the Minisink Valley Reformed Dutch Church Records, 1716-1830, I find Antje VAN ETTEN (d/o Cornelius VE & Heyltie WESTBROOK) & husband Jacobus Van Gorden at the baptism of their daughter Heyltie VG. Who is this Jacobus VG? To those who know my narrow minded search might recall that there was a Jacob Van Gordon near my John Cortright 1800-1810 in southwestern PA. John named his first son Jacob V. Courtright c1799 & I've been looking for a namesake. I have Cornelius Van Etten as the s/o Jacob VE & Antjen Westbrook. I have no dates for Cornelius & no other children other than Antje. Thanks, Cindy
Hi, Folks... I've added two pages of transcriptions of the Mansfield Woodhouse Presbyterian Church Cemetery to my web site. You can find them beginning at http://RAUB-and-more.com/mansfieldcem1.html. There is also a link there to a partial listing of members of that church in 1817. That can be found at http://raub-and-more.com/mansfieldmembers.html. Jan Reuther http://RAUB-and-more.com
My mail server was down for 2 days. What have I missed? Could someone please forward me any messages? Thank you, sharon
Another thought about the many baptisms for the same family members at the same time. Once the father or parents owned the covenent, joined the church, they were able to take the sacraments of that church, such as baptism, communion, etc. as such many had all their living children baptised shortly after. Connie
I am interested in finding information on baptisms from 1792 that has been documented from the Clove Dutch Reformed Church. Does any one have access to the original records dated 1790 to 1820? Trying to sort out a family grouping. In the Minisnk Valley RDc records there is a Petrus HOOGHTLING (various spellings) & Maria WESTFALL. So far I've found 3 children of theirs: Lena bap. Apr 27, 1765, Aug 28, 1772 & Willhelmus Jun 14, 1775. I believe Lena was married to Aert BRINK, Abraham to Lena WOOD, & William to Susanna CORTRIGHT (d/o John C. & Susanna Kittle) . Was Petrus H. the s/o Johannes H. & Maretje Hornbeeck baptized May 29, 1739? Who was Maria WESTFALL, there were a gazillion of them, give or take a few. :>) William Hooghtling & Susanna Cortright named their first child Cornelius Brink Hooghtling, bap. Aug 23, 1801. Who was this child named for? Since Sussana is a possible sister of my John C. it gives me hope in the fact that she didn't seem to strictly follow the naming patterns! thanks, Cindy Cindy Torres Owens cindyo@va.prestige.net http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/o/w/e/Cindy-L-Owens/index.html
Can anyone identify either parent? Thanks, Cindy 1 George Westbrook . +Altie Cortright 2 Cornelius Westbrook b: Apr 22, 1810 Baptism: May 6, 1810 Machackemack, Orange Co., NY
I can't tell you what happened way back then but I can tell you about our family, The children being born in 1925, 1929 and 1932. Dad was of one church and Mom was of the Reformed Church and she was waiting for Dad to go to church with her for the baptisum and he would not go. Dad died in 1938 and that year we were all three baptised in the Reformmed Church. Franklin Delano Roosevelt and George Walker Bush are 9th cousins, 3 times removed. Their common ancestors are Rev. John Lothrop and Hannah Howes.
John M. SLOAT is in the 1840 Census for Sussex Co., in 'Hardisten'. My ancestor is Judith SLOAT b 6 April 1764 probably in NY. She was married to Stephen MASTERS in Hardiston 9/16/1783 by Ludwick Hoglan, JP. Is anyone searching SLOAT or know who John M.'s parents may be? Thought perhaps he is a nephew or some relation to my Judith. OR does anyone know if there might be any JP records at a genealogical or history society in Sussex Co.
