GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF BLACK FAMILIES IN ORANGE COUNTY presented by Bob Brennan Bob Brennan is Village of Otisville Historian. He has been interested in genealogy since 1981 when he gave his seventh grade Social Studies class an assignment to trace their family and he started to trace his own family. He was very interested in local history and government. Bob was appointed by Governor Carey to the Board of Trustees of Washington's Headquarters in 1977 and served for 10 years. He served on the town board of Wallkill for 16 years and was supervisor when the clean up and dedication of the Pine Hill Cemetery occurred. Hi, I am searching for information on my 4th great grandfather, born in1790 in New Jersey. Family said to have come from Holland with the name of MOYERS. Change it to MYERS after settling there. Do not have the parents names. Siblings of Henry were: Phebe, Mary, Catherine, David and Phillip. Phebe married Peter KINNEY/KINNY of New Jersey. All siblings came to the Western New York area. Henry married Susan HEDGLEN/HEDGLENING. Her mother was Sally DEGARMO/GARMO. Not sure if they married in New Jersey or here in Western NY. Is there anyone who would have information on these people? If so I would appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance, Muriel Glenn

My GGrandfather supposedly taken my GGrandmother out of an "Old Folks Home" to clean house. They never married, and some of the children went by her last name & some by his last name. I don't have any info re: the above lines. I was requesting info re: one of the names mentioned in the message, STOLL J. Thurlow
Dear Michelle, I am a Stoll descendant through a Jacob STOLL who married Phebe CASE. He died in 1852 at 78 years of age. This would have placed his BD at 1774? They were from Sussex Co. NJ. I have not been able to get beyond that Jacob. His sons, ( and perhaps Jacob) James, Aaron and Francis moved to Chemung Co. NY and I know much about them. I have amassed much info re: various Jacobs and James in NJ but have not been able to connect them to the Jacob who married Phebe. Could this pension application be a clue for me? Jackie Thurlow

In 1791 Abraham and Elizabeth SLOAT are shown in Wantage. Is anyone searching this family? John M. SLOAT is in the 1840 Census for Sussex Co., in 'Hardisten'. My ancestor is Judith SLOAT b 6 April 1764 probably in NY. She was married to Stephen MASTERS in Hardiston 9/16/1783 by Ludwick Hoglan, JP. Is anyone searching SLOAT or know who John M.'s parents may be? Thought perhaps he is a nephew or some relation to my Judith. OR does anyone know if there might be any JP records at a genealogical or history society in Sussex Co. Hi List, The below article was on Somebody's Links Newsletter on Rootsweb and thought it might help someone. Connie Sorensen o I have a privately printed book that contains a collection of letters from "The Personal Correspondence of Platt ROGERS." They were written in the 1920s, mainly to family members from his home in Denver, Colorado, and on his travels. There are several pictures Platt ROGERS and his wife and a picture of him as a senior citizen standing in front of the farmhouse where he was born 15 July 1850. The farm had belonged to his grandfather, Joseph CURRENT, of Sussex County, New Jersey. I would be happy to see this book restored to the ROGERS family. Evelyn Cataldi evelync@norfolk.infi.net
