    3. Greta, I have a SARAH GUNTERMAN, daughter of WILLIAM and MARY SIMMONS GUNTERMAN, who married a JOSEPH PERRIGO. This family lived in Frankford, Sussex Co., NJ. SARAH was born in 1801. She was a sister to my 3rd great grandfather, WILLIAM GUNTERMAN who married MARY PERRY. There were also PERRIGOs who had cemetery plots in Port Jervis, I believe, who sold them to a GUNDERMAN. Also look under "PH" and "F" for variations of the surname. JOSEPH is listed in the Estate records of WILLIAM GUNTERMAN, Sr., and in a deed transfer dated 2/26/1838. If you would like the siblings of SARAH GUNTERMAN and how I connect, let me know. Sheryl Gunderman Robinson Horseheads, Chemung Co., NY PS: There was a Perrigo who was a member of our Farm Bureau. 3. Dear Greta, Perigo (with variant spellings) is not frequent in NJ records. I looked in some volumes of NJ will abstracts and found first that Ezekle (Ezekiel?] Perigo of Piscataway, Middlesex County, husbandman, wrote his will on 22 July 1724. He mentions his wife "Allice"; his children -- Thomas, David, Sarah, Allis -- and his grandson, John Perigo. He also mentions land bought of John Molleson, adjoining John Macdaniel; a farm in Lime [Lyme] near the Connecticut River; and his home farm. He makes his wife sole executrix. The witnesses were Henry Skibbow, Judah Sutton, and Richard Martin. The will was proved on 17 Nov 1724. It may be worth your while to look in New London County, CT, for Perigo origins :-). The other two references I found confirm the residence of one Joseph Perego in Sussex County, NJ. He witnessed the will of Ezekiel Youmans of Vernon Township, farmer, of Sussex County on 23 Dec 1801. Along with a Henry Brasted, Joseph Perego made an inventory of Ezekiel Youman's estate on 30 Mar 1802. And finally a John Simmons of Frankford Township. Sussex County, NJ, wrote his will on 17 Apr 1805. John wills to his daughters Sarah and Catherine "three lots now in the possession of Thomas Perrigo (50 acres)". I checked the will abstracts through 1817, and these are the only references to Perrigo that I found. 3. Hello all, This is my first posted message to the group. I appreciate all the contributions that have come through. No one has yet mentioned the surnames I am searching. Mainly PERRIGO/PERREGO, (but also spouses, LITTLE, WIGGINS, RIGGS, WASHBURN, TOWNSEND researchers may hold information). The sure time frame in Sussex Co. is 1790's to 1860's. After that everyone (that I already I know about) had migrated to OH, NY, PA, IN or IA. Bible records state that the ancestor was Joseph Perrigo b. 1745. Family notes say he died at the home of his son, Joseph II in NYC at the age of 90. Harold Mason has said New Jersey didn't start keeping records of births and deaths until 1848. Has anyone posted the death vital records since 1848? Does anyone know of churches recordings or cemeteries postings with the PERRIGO/PERREGO surnames? Greta Olsen in Berkeley California.

    2. Does anyone know why I cannot find/ or where I should look for birth records from Deckerton NJ? At least 2 people I am searching for I know were born there in 1823, and 1826, but to date I can find nothing. What am I missing? Have the records burned or been destroyed? I would venture they were Presbyterian or Methodist church members, or maybe even baptist, as one was a baptist minister (Eugene) during his life. I am looking for the names of Eugene Moore - born in Mar-Apr. of 1826, and C.C. or Cyrus C. Moore - Born 1823. Parents were Benjamin G. Moore and Mary/Polly B. (Cone) Moore. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Pam

    3. NJ Herald Weds 7 Sep 1898 A very pretty little runaway took place in Shaytown last week. Joshua COLE has a very smart four-year-old colt which he has been speeding a little and his driver, Mr. TITSWORTH, was not equal to the task. Bert MORRIS is named a teacher in Stillwater school for September 1898 The descendants of Garret and Elizabeth CORTRIGHT held a reunion on Tuesday of last week in the grove on the old home- stead near Greenville, Orange county. The special feature in the gathering was the celebration of the ninetieth birthday of Mrs. Courtright, who is in full possession of her faculties and is enjoying remarkably good health for one whom so many years have passed. Mrs Courtright was the mother of fourteen children, ten of whom are still living, and all, with the exception of Wallace, of Barryville, Sulivan county, were present. They were: Nancy, wife of Thad SEELEY, of Greenville; Julia, wife of H. L. HUNT, of Greenville; Jane, wife of B. F. MOORE, of Greenville; Sarah, wife of L. A. ELSTON, of Westtown; Mary, wife of S. W. REED, of Greenville; Margaret, wife of J. A. DETCH, of New York; Alice, widow of Morgan McGILL, of Greenville; Bowdewine and Aaron, both of Unionville. Their children and their children's children to the number of about fifty, were also present and four generations sat down to a bountiful repast which was spread at the noon hour. The families representing the neices and nephews present were: Austin ABER and family, of Port Jervis; Levi COURTRIGHT and family, of Sussex co. NJ; A. COURTRIGHT and family of Westtown; Erastus COURTRIGHT and family of Greenville, Mrs. Nellie COURTRIGHT and family of Coleville, NJ; Lewis COURTRIGHT and wife of Scotchtown; G. LEE, of Circleville, Bowdewine COURTRIGHT of Mt. Salem, NJ and Mrs Charles QUICK and Miss Jennie LEE of Matamoras, PA. The telephone is comparatively an innovation in this county, it having yet been in existence within our boundaries for less than a year. However, it is gradually coming in general use and there are more business places in Newton that are thus connected than those that have not adopted this modern convenience. Another new use of the telephone is that it is a practical and trustworthy weather barometer. While in the Herald office the other day, Miss DEPUE, who has charge of the central office of the Sussex Telephone Company in Newton, stated that she could detect by the telephone the approach of a shower a number of hours before it occurred, by the buzzing sound conveyed over the wire by the disturbance in the air. During a heavy thunder storm, there are a good number more pleasant places to be than in a telelphone office. The commotion created by the heavily charged atmosphere creates a snapping and cracking all along the line, that it is very suggestive of a final smash up. At such times, Miss Depue informed us, she is careful to "ground" all the wires connected with the office, and no matter how urgent the call, it receives no reply until the clouds have rolled away. Lafayette - The povery social held at the residence of Richard VAUGHN last Thursday evening was a complete success and the attendance was large. And such an attendance - one would have thought that a lot of old rag bags had got loose. The costumes were all that could be expected, and some were most startingly original. The prizes for most original and amusing costumes were awarded to Mrs. Mary KELLAR and Harvey S. HOPKINS. Excellent music was furnished by Misses Emma K. WARBASSE and Anna D. COUSE, Mrs. Oscar A. SHOTWELL and the Lafayette orchestra. The proceeds amounted to $23. Happy Hunting, Cathy DiPietro vdpcom@warwick.net listowner: NJSussex
