    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] SMITH of Sussex Co NJ before 1810
    2. Seeking info on SMITH in Sussex County late 1700s, hope someone can help! Stephen SMITH. Born on 6 May 1771 Sussex County New Jersey. Stephen died in Sumner, Meigs Co, Ohio on 24 Mar 1841; he was 69. Buried in Keebaugh Cemetery, Chester, Ohio. Occupation: Justice of Peace 16 years, Township Clerk 10 years. Abt 1787 when Stephen was 15, he married Mary "Polly" (SMITH?), possibly Sussex Co New Jersey. Mary born on 18 Jun 1773 in Sussex County, New Jersey, Mary "Polly" died in Meigs Co, Ohio on 23 Aug 1858; she was 85. (I don't think Mary's maiden name was SMITH but some family researchers do.) They had the following children SMITH: 2 i. Sarah "Sally" (1789-1828) married Henry LEIGHTY ca 1810 Fayette Co PA 3 ii. Adonijah (1796-1881) married Marie BUTTERFIELD Meigs Co Ohio 4 iii. William (1798-1880) married Rachel ANDERSON Meigs Co Ohio 5 iv. Furman (1799-1815) died age 16 6 v. Josiah L. (1800-1891) married Priscilla HILL Meigs Co, Ohio 7 vi. John Axford (1802-1866) married Jane B.M. HYSELL Meigs Co, Ohio 8 vii. Elizabeth (1806-1893) married Samuel S. BRANCH Meigs Co, Ohio 9 viii. Mary S. (1808-ca1900) married Whitney TUBBS, Meigs Co, Ohio 10 ix. James Adams (1810-1896) married Sarah "Sally" GROW Meigs co , Ohio 11 x. Stephen (1812-1815) died age 3 12 xi. Isaac W. (1813-1897) married Marilla HALSEY Meigs Co, Ohio 13 xii. Joseph Vandrite (1816-1894) married Rachel HINCKLEY, 2nd Mary FOSTER 14 xiii. Robert (1817-1822) died age 5 15 xiv. "Infant" (ca1819-ca1819) The first seven or eight children were apparently born in New Jersey, the rest in Fayette County Pennsylvania. In1809: Stephen & Mary & family moved to Pennsylvania from Sussex Co NJ a distance of 350 miles. According to one early family history, shortly after arriving at Uniontown, Mary got word that one of her relatives was very sick in New Jersey and rode back to NJ on horseback all alone in the wilderness. Mary would have been 36 years old at that time with three children under age 6, one of those a babe in arms. Still, she had an older daughter who could have cared for them. 1823: Smith family moves to Meigs Co Ohio. Carolyn "Remember, you have a friend in Oklahoma!" 2. Catherine, Thank you for your lovely message to new subscribers. While I am not new to the list, I am one of the many peripheral members of the list. The secret to a good lis is a good listowner who makes it seem like the list runs itself. This is a very good list with many helpful people. 3. Thanks for all the responses to my recent query. The "Fuller" website is great, but I have been unable to link this with my Fuller line so far. When Denise Garcia posted about the Fuller/Rummerfield (Flumerfelt) line in 1998, she had the exact family that I am researching. I'll keep trying to find her and will be sure to let the list know if I make a connection. Thanks again. 3. Hi! I am looking to find where I can locate Naturalization Lists by the New Jersey Provincial Council which lists many of the early Sussex Co., settlers circa mid 1700's. This list includes early German families such as SNOVER, WINDERMUTE, SWARTZWELDER, MERKLE, and BEEMER. Does anyone have a clue where these are kept? Thanks! Sheryl GUNDERMAN/COUNTRYMAN Robinson

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] Warren Journal
    2. Jan Reuther
    3. Hi, folks.... I recently got some microfilms of the Warren Journal, published in Belvidere, from Rutgers, through inter-library loan. I've added some listings of marriages (http://raub-and-more.com/warrenjournal/journalmarriages4849.html), deaths (http://raub-and-more.com/warrenjournal/journaldeaths4849.html), and some odds and ends (http://raub-and-more.com/warrenjournal/journaloddsandends.html) for the years 1848 and 1849 to my web site. The transcriptions are by no means complete; the loan period is only one week, non-renewable, and the two films covered a ten-year span. My criterion very quickly became readability. Hope you have some fun reading these, and that you find someone you've been looking for. Jan Reuther http://RAUB-and-more.com

    2. PATRICE SCHADT
    3. Donna -- I may or may not have some clues for you. I have two collateral lines to my Myers family. One was Roxanne Myers, who married a Fuller and the other is her sister, Mahala Myers, who also married another Fuller brother. These two couples left Walpack, Sussex, NJ and went to Wayne County, PA. They are buried in Swingle Cemetery. One of those families had a son Hiram, probably born in the 1820's. The other Fuller brother had a son, Ira. Have you checked out Nancy Pascal's page? I think she has a rundown on the Fuller families. I have run into some stumbling blocks on our Myers family, and if this also connects to your Fullers, perhaps we can compare notes to get past the block. Below is a link to a page that mentions my collateral Fuller lines, as well as others, perhaps you might find something of help there. http://www.uftree.com/UFT/WebPages/PaschkeP/FULLER2/index.htm Patrice Houck Schadt > Ira/Hiram FULLER was born about 1809. According to the information listed on the 1900 and 1910 census, Phoebe's father (Ira/Hiram FULLER) was born in New York. Her mother, Lydia RUMMERFIELD, was born about 1821 in New Jersey.

    3. Thanks for your quick response. My husband is a descendant of Phoebe Angeline FULLER, who was born in New Jersey on August 8, 1842. Phoebe's death certificate lists her father's name as Ira FULLER and her mother's name as Lydia RUMMERFIELD. The family moved to Lycoming County, PA in the late 1840's. The 1850 Lycoming County, PA census lists Phoebe's father's name as Hiram FULLER. Ira/Hiram FULLER was born about 1809. According to the information listed on the 1900 and 1910 census, Phoebe's father (Ira/Hiram FULLER) was born in New York. Her mother, Lydia RUMMERFIELD, was born about 1821 in New Jersey. When I checked the Sussex County mailing list archives, there was a post made by Denise Garcia in 1998, asking for information about this family. I attempted to write to her, but her e-mail address is no longer valid. If anyone has information on this family, I would like very much to share. Also, if anyone has information on how to contact Denise Garcia, I would appreciate it. Thanks again and I hope to hear from someone soon. Donna

    1. [NJSUSSEX-L] HAYWARD & ANDERSON, Sussex Co., NJ
    2. Barbara Montgomery
    3. Matthias and Betsy Hayward lived in Byram Twp., Sussex Co., NJ from the 1820 census through the 1840 census. By the 1850 census they were in Morgan Co., IN but were no longer listed in 1860. I recently found out that Betsy was Elizabeth Anderson. She lived in Roxbury Twp. (possibly a town called New Market, later called Drakesville) of Morris Co., NJ. She married Matthias Hayward in New Market on Nov. 28, 1813. They were married by the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Sucassunna, but I have been told that the church records have disappeared for this time period. Is anyone on the list working on Andersons or Haywards in Sussex Co., NJ in the early 1800's? I have found evidence that many of the Haywards in the area also used the surname Howard. I would like to find the parents and siblings of both Matthias and Betsy. Barbara Montgomery

Also, is the Andreas Reis who is listed as sponsor of Johannes Ulrich the son of Jacob Reis and Catharina? Jacob and Catharina did have a son Andreas (Andrew) but he was married to Catherina Dennis.
