FRENCH FAMILY OF SOMERSET CO., NJ Researchers: Looking for those descended from Phineas Mundy French, son of David French Jr. & Margaret Noe, son of David French Sr. & Sarah Wilcox: Phineas Mundy French b: 10 Aug 1812, d: 01 Apr 1901; m: (1) 25 Jun 1837, Mary Emaline Oswald, b: 28 Sept 1819, d: 11 Jan 1861; Their children were: 1. Theadore Franklin French b: 1840, d: 1908. He married (1) Mary C. Burnett, (a niece of Zebulon Vance of Morristown, one of NJ's oldest editors.) Their children were: 1. a Daughter who married Edward M. Howell 2. Charles Gray French (removed to St. Paul) And married 1864, (2) Melissa Colthar (any children, unknown) Theodore Franklin French was in a partnership of a milling business with his father, Phineas Mundy French. Theodore was also a member of the North Plainfield School Board and an active member of the Plainfield Board of Fire Commisioners. He helped to build the West Second St. Firehouse in 1869 and for sometime was also Fire Chief of the Fire Department. 2. Mary Elizabeth French, m: George Whitney 3. Louis M. French b: 30 Nov 1852 4. John Henry French Phineas Mundy French married (2) 12 Feb 1862, Sarah Jane Lees, (daughter of Samuel Lees from Saddleworth, Yorkshire, Eng who established the print works at Bloomfield, NJ. Her maternal grandfather was James Wilde Sr. who lived at the Roses in Saddleworth, Yorkshire, Eng. James Wilde was also the gr-grandfather of a Dr. James Bukley of Morristown, NJ) Sarah was born, 10 Aug 1836. They had children: 1. Harriet Anna French 2. William Albert French (removed to St.Paul) 3. Harrington Robley French b: 14 Nov 1865 4. Elston Marsh French b: Somerset Co., NJ 5.
