    1. Hamler/Hambler family of Somerset Co
    2. Novak, Rick
    3. Greetings, I'm searching for the ancestry of Nancy Hambler/Hamler who was born c1785, possibly in Bernards TWP, Somerset Co. She was married to an Andrew Bird and had a daughter Beulah Bird (b1807) who was married to a Peter Cole and then William S Frost (my ancestor). According to census index records, a Leonard/Lenard Hambler/Hamler/Homler lived in the area during the late 18th century. I suspect he may be my Nancy's father. Leonard is almost certainly a descendent of Nicholaus Hammler who settled at 6 Mile Run in 1718. Any help with the Hamler family would be most appreciated. Regards, Rick Novak

    2. susan case
    3. Hi, List, Is anyone researching the Labaw or LaBau family of Somerset Co.? I have my line from Francis Labaw who married Deliverance Stout about 1720 in Monmouth Co. Many of their descendants lived in Somerset Co. Of course the Stouts have been well researched. And I have information on their descendants. But the only information we've ever found on Francis is that he was born in London of Hugonaut parents. Has anyone found any other info? === __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

    1. Tax Lists New Jersey
    2. Elizabeth Pellicane
    3. There is a large collection of tax records for New Jersey, the dates vary by county, but most cover from about 1770-1820. I've used a list that was published over several issues of the magazine published by the Genealogical society of NJ, and I've used microfilms of the tax records. The magazines as well as the list are housed at Rutgers University library in New Brunswick, in the Special Collections area here's the URL; http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rulib/spcol/spcol.htm I also believe these records are available from LDS family history centers. The special Collections won't have Saturday hours until this fall, If you can wait until then, I can look up what you need.. 1. Benjamin Coddington
    2. Hi Roberta I looked for Benjamin Coddington in "Villages at the Crossroads: A history of Warren Township, 1806-1976 and found TONS of Coddingtons! In addition to Benjamin, I have the following others: (numbers refer to page numbers in the booklet) Coddington 19, 37 Coddington, Abby 24 Coddington, Archibald 5, 24, 26, 29 Coddington, Archibald Jr. 24 Coddington, Bartholomew 24 Coddington, Benjamin 24, 25, 26 Coddington, Christiana Cazad 24 Coddington, David 24 Coddington, George Casad 30 Coddington, George W. 24 Coddington, Hetty 6 Coddington, Hetty Jane 5 Coddington, Imogene 35 Coddington, Isaac 24, 26, 28 Coddington, Isaac V. 5 Coddington, Isaiah 24 Coddington, Joel 27, 28 Coddington, John 24, 26, 39 Coddington, John Jr. 24 Coddington, John Wesley 24 Coddington, Lester 24 Coddington, Lewis 14 Coddington, Lora 24 Coddington, Marietta 14 Coddington, Phebe Ruckman 5 Coddington, Reuben 24 Coddington, Sarah 39 Coddington, Sarah Giddes 24, 26 Coddington, Thomas 14 Coddington, William A. 13, 24, 29 Coddington, William B. 24 Here's what I have on Ben specifically: Page 24 The Coddington family in Warren ws descended form Isaac who was born aobut 1720 in woodbridge. He married Sarah Giddes and they had John, Benjamin, Archibald, and Abby. John settled on a 122 acre farm on the corner of Liberty Corner and Mt. Horeb Rdoad and left the property to his sons George W. , Rueben, John and Bartholemew when he died in 1844. Reuben it is said built the present house in 1873 which is now owned by the Egans. Next door on the farm owned by Lester and Lora Coddington lived Archibald "Corrington" or Coddington, son of Isaac, who was born in 1756 and served as a private inteh militia. When he died his sons Ben and William stayed on to farm the 100 acre property. The place came to Lester and Lora from their father John Wesley Coddington who bought it from his uncle William A. Page 25 The Methodists were an active group in the Mt. Horeb area and it is said that first class met in a house a mile southeast of Martinsville as early as 1770. By 1820 services were being held in the homes of John Smith, David Ruckman, Rachel Adams, and Benjamin Coddington. That same year Rev. Bartholemew Weed organiqed a class of eight person who met in Ben Coddington's home 1 1/2 miles east of the present church. Page 26 It is said that the first Coddingtons to live in Warren owned a house on Mt. Horeb Rd. across from Deerwood Club. Here Sarah Coddington, the widow of Isaac, lived with sons Archibald, Ben, and John during the Revolutionary War. Now owned by the Paul Sopchaks, the house has a stone foundation, a fireplace (bricked up now) and had mortise and tenoned rafters with large pegs. Tehir deed says Ben Coddington conveyed the property to John in 1784. Mrs. Sopchak's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Rocco, bought the farm when she was 3 years old. .... Just west of the Sopchak's house is one owned by George Ascher. It is said to have been teh home of Ben Coddington and the very thick stone walls and the evidence of a large fireplace once in the kitchen suggest that it is indeed a very old home. Based on the dates you gave, I think the Benjamin who was the son of Archibald may be your ancestor. Hope this is interesting for you! Debbie

    1. VanTine
    2. Jerry Gray
    3. Looking for any information on Martin and Sarah Brice (possibly Boice) VanTine who were married in Middlesex County on 19 Nov 1859. They were both born in SOMERSET County in Plainfield. Martin Augustus VanTine was born 23 Apr 1839, and Sarah was born 3 Jun 1842. They moved towards Illinois where they finally settled and were buried there. We believe Martin's parents were Peter VanTine and Elanor TenBrook-Skillman. Is it possible to find out this family of Peter and Elanor, and whether or not a list of the children is included? And what about Peter's parents, who may be Ephraim Funtine Jr., possibly born 7 Feb 1762 in Hunterdon County. Would appreciate any information on this family. We have heard that they were a strong Dutch family, and then we heard they were French. Would like to hear any information. Thank you! Jerry Gray Brodhead WI
