Henricus Coens of Aquackanonck, and a small wooden building was erected by the congregation at present day Belle Mead, where the old cemetery established there is still in use. Rev. Theodorus Jacobus Frelinghuysen at that time served the several outlying congregations of central New Jersey, and in 1729 Harlingen was added to his charge. This extended and partially unsettled circuit was something of a strain upon the reverend's energies, and only occasional services were held in the small, remote congregation of Harlingen. During the Coetus-Conferentie contraversy, which for a number of years rocked the Dutch church in America, a rift developed in the Harlingen congregation. In consequence, one group withdrew and erected its own building (1750-52) on the site of the present church. Upon the eventual reunion of the two parties, the old church was abandoned, and in due time demolished. In 1803 a new building took the place of the second one, which had become somewhat dilapidated. The present church structure was erected in 1851. Linda, the present church is on the left side of the road when you are headed north from Princeton on the way to Somerville. If you continue a couple of miles past the church, over the railroad and make the bend to the right (noticeable on any New Jersey map as a wild curve) the original site/cemetery are on the left. There was at least one HOF/BERKA baptism that was posted earlier. Sorry, but I don't have the time to do lookups nor do I have the books. They're locked in a fireproof safe! I also have the additional handicap of not being able to read the original Dutch...... sorry. I'm waiting for a sunny day so I can take a good picture of the church and the cemetery. When I have one I'll post a note and you can email me privately and I'll be glad to scan it to you. I did that with Solebury Friends Meeting in New Hope and it came out great. Does anyone know if there was a newspaper for South Bound Brook being published in 1909? I would like to get a obit for my Great-grandfather. His name was Antonio Gorecki, he died on Feb. 20, 1909. If there wasn't a paper, where else could I look? Thank you for help, Elysa
Dear Karen, You might try the library or Gen. Soc.in the county seat of the county he lived in. If you don't know that I would think the Trenton,N.J. gov. lib. could help. Also you could look in the DAR index for his name and a small amount of info - usually his wife's name, where he served from, etc. The index is in local libraries. Good luck Cleona
Can anyone tell me where I need to write to find out about a Revolutionary War Record in the state of New Jersey? I wrote the US government and they said that I had to write the state. I have found his name listed in the archives as having fought in the Rev War. New to list. 1850, Hillsborough Twp.: Thomas HOPE 43, Winafred 48, Stevenson N. 21, Hiram 18, Whitfield D. 13, Henrietta 11, William K. 8, Rosanna BUNN 25, Thomas RUNYON 74. What relationship, if any, existed between Rosanna Bunn, Thomas Runyon and the Hope family. Any leads on any of these people are appreciated.
Another source for birth, death, marriage information is the Bound Brook Chronicle (called "The Chronicle" years ago). They covered much of the Bound Brook, Manville, Somerville, Franklin Twp., South Bound Brook area. The Bound Brook Library has them on microfilm and they date from the late 1800's to current publications. I found much information on my Durling relatives in them. Copies of articles are available. One note on the Courier-News (old Plainfield Courier-News) based in Bridgewater. Don't waste your time going there for copies or the Somerset County Library in Bridgewater. The Courier-News doesn't let anyone in for research, and the Bridgewater Branch of the Somerset County Library only has copies of the Courier dating back about 10 years. For anything earlier than the mid 1980's go to the Plainfield library on Park Avenue in Plainfield, NJ. They have all of the years on microfilm and it is available for copying issues (there is a small charge for the copies--bring quarters!!). Jackie Lubinski jwl@hunterdon.csnet.net
The first place I would go to for Somerset County births, death and marriages would be the Somerset Messenger-Gazette, published weekly in Somerville. A predecessor newspaper, the Messenger, was publishing as early as 1830, so this paper has a long history. The Courier-News (formerly in Plainfield, now in Bridgewater) is the local daily newspaper for the area. The Daily Home News is a New Brunswick paper with a Middlesex County focus. Some papers of the area in the 19th century in addition to the Somerset Messenger were: Somerset Whig Hunterdon Gazette Plainfield Union Weekly Comet --Wendy Freborg
I also wonder if there might be a newspaper for Neshanic...ca 1775-1785. Hi--what time frame are you looking to search? The Home News was a big paper when I was a child there in the 60's. I beleive it was printed in New Brunswick. There may have been a weekly in Manville when it was in its heydey with Johns Manville Corp. But in the 1960-70s the whole asbestos thing pretty much put them out of business. You might also check for a daily paper in Somerville which is the nearest big town to Manville. I don't recall the name of that paper, but it would have circulated in Manville too. Good luck. THere is a site online of newspapers that are on line. Perhaps you can find one with an online archives. Good luck. Debbie in CA now
Can anyone tell me in what newspaper would I find births, marriages, obituaries, etc. that occurred in Manville, Somerset, NJ. Thank you in advance. Goldy gmsw@juno.com

Does anyone have information on MORRIS S. KRYMER b. January 18, 1809 d. April 27, 1892? It's likely he's my 3rd great grandfather. I'm interested to know what children he had and any other bio on him. Thanks, Sara Madsen
