Hi I'm new to this board...hope I can find out something. I've traced my family back to an Elijah Martin. Fortunately he was buried in a cemetary that still keeps pretty good records. I found that he was born either in 1776 or 1777. For birthplace, all it said was "Somerset County". For the last few years this has been a deadend for me. I know Elijah moved to Mendham in his ealry to mid 20's - just across the Somerset County line in Morris County. Unfortunately, with no town listed, the Somerset county records people tell me that they can't tell me a thing! I did manage to find a couple of Martins living in that area during that time period, one about 16 years old and another about 50. Not exactly the normal ages to father a child, but both are certainly possibilities. My problem is I can't get ANYWHERE with just the information I have on him ( a birth year and a county of birth). I'd really like to find the names of his parents. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks... Buddy Martin

Howdy, Nigel, There are two great Somerset counties. This list is for the county in New Jersey, USA. If by chance you run across any resources on the Somerset County in England, however, feel welcome to pass the info along to me. As it turns out, I also have some SAGE ancestors who came from Shepton Mallet in that county. Greetings all. I have 2 questions for the list. I believe one of my relatives died in the Somerville/Raritan area close to 1880. Could someone tell me the papers in the area at that time that might have had an obit. Also, does anyone have a list of cemetaries in that area where he might possibly have been buried? Any help would be appreciated. Paul
To all; Well, AOL crashed again and I've lost all recent mail as well as my address book. So, if you expected an answer from recent mail, the record of your mail has evaporated. (I have now upgraded from AOL 3.0 to AOL 4.0 (Mac). Dick Van Duyne
To all; Someone, probably on this mailing list, sent me a note and a file on VANDERBILT. Unfortunately, the note disappeared and the attached file is in a format that my word processing program can't open. Please try again. Dick Van Duyne

Hi Donna, Thank you for visiting our brand-new HOAGLAND website, and for your warm comments! Sorry to disappoint you that I don't have much STRYKER info posted yet, just the following (in case you missed it): Maria HOAGLAND's ancestors: Jan Gerritse STRYCKER: http://www.stipak.com/hoagland/maria/bios/3.HTM#P3051 and 2 of his daughters: Sarah STRYCKER: http://www.stipak.com/hoagland/maria/bios/2.HTM#P6129 and Eytie STRYCKER: http://www.stipak.com/hoagland/maria/bios/2.HTM#P6021 and also, on our adjacent HAGEMAN family website, two of John D. and Maria Hoagland STRYKER's daughters: Aletta "Althea" Quick STRYKER http://www.stipak.com/hageman/williambrown/RR01/RR01_001.HTM#P4130B and Magdalena Voorhees STRYKER http://www.stipak.com/hageman/williambrown/RR01/RR01_001.HTM#P4130C along with hundreds of their descendants, including me, not named STRYKER since we are maternal STRYKER descendants. This particular website report I announced today is on Maria HOAGLAND's ancestors, not on her husband John D. STRYKER's. However, I will be posting an attached website sometime in the near future, hopefully before Christmas, on "The Ancestors of John D. STRYKER." Good morning, my name is Dick Wood from Tucson, AZ, formerly of Wayne County, PA. My quest is to find the ancestors of my g g grandfather, John R GASTON. He was married to Sarah CONKLIN and had four sons who lived in and around Damascus, Wayne County, PA. There were married June 1, 1852. Sarah was born in March 1, 1828. So if thery were about the same age, JOHN R would have been born 1825+/- . I believe he is a descendent of Hugh or Joseph Gaston from Ireland (1720+/-) who came to Pepack and Lamington, New Jersey, but I don't have any connection to link it up. My request is ask for any assisstance that might help me track down his (and mine) ancestors. One possibility I am presently pursuing is trying to get information about him from his military service. He was killed in the Civil War at the battle of the Wilderness on May 10, 1864. He served in Company "I" of the 84th Pennsylvania Infantry. Please reply directly to me, thanks in advance for any help.
