I have been watching the list for some time and decided to put in some info on my lines. My ancestor Hannah Coon (1778NJ - 1866MI) is dau of John Coon and Mary Bush of Somerset Co, NJ. She married William Worth about 1800. They died in Michigan. Through wills and some cemetery records, I have determined that John Coon died in 1786 in Somerset Co. His wife Mary had already died in 1779. I do not know who raised Hannah. I know very little about this family. I think John Coon was the son of Thomas Coon and wife Hannah. John Bush and wife Hannah Pain had at least 10 children, one of them Mary Bush who married John Coon. Hannah Pain is dau of Peter Pain. William Worth, husband of Hannah Coon, is son of John Worth and Anna. These are all Somerset families. I wonder if anyone else is searching these lines. Glo Wellman

Hi: I have a certified copy of a deed from Somerset Co., NJ, that I received by mistake for Moses COON of Bernard's Twp., dated 20 Jun 1782. He was selling land to John DE HART of Elizabeth Town, NJ. Adjacent landowners include Joseph MARTIN and Benjamin COON/COONS. If anyone researching COON/COONS or DE HART would like this, please e-mail me your name and address and I'll send it to you via snail mail. Any plans for posting Rapalje marriages from New Jersey? A branch of the family left Long Island late 1600's or early 1700's and settled in Somerset County NJ and in New Brunswick in neighboring Middlesex County. There are some marriages posted on the County websites, alphabetically, but they haven't gotten to "R" yet. Another question: There is a Rapalje from Somerset County whose name is shown frequently as "Derrick or Richard". He died "during the Revolution" and his estate apparently claimed damages from the war, according to the Somerset County Historical Quarterly. Anyone out there seen the will or have any other information about him? I have placed a lot of very old postcards from the county in an online album site. We have tried for a long time to figure out how to share them. The advents of the computer and the scanner have made it possible. We do hope you enjoy them as much as we have. They belonged to my husband's aunt, Mable Briggs Cardner of Plainfield. Bruce grew up in Watchung, then moved to North Plainfield. He has been helping me with the counties, so I do hope they are right. Wetumpka falls is listed in Plainfield, but he says it was in Somerset. I put it in both counties. Thought I would mention it. He says it is no longer there. Bruce also had his maternal Touchon line in these areas. Here is the link. http://www.zing.com/album/?id=4294639547 My best to all on the list. Greetings from New Mexico! I'm new to this listserve and am researching VanArsdalens. My 4-gr grandfather was Gilbert VanArsdalen, born in 1802, in New Jersey. Around 1829 he married Catherine Walker, born 1810 in NJ. Their two oldest sons, Cornelius (b 1829) and William (b 1831) were born in NJ. Based on transcriptions of VanArsdalen Bible records, I suspect that the family was from Somerset Co, but am not certain. By 1835 the family had relocated to Licking Co, Ohio. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. (As I'm not only new to this listserve, but also to research in NJ in general, any tips about doing research in NJ would appreciate as well.) Warmly, Daniel Powers
