Greetings, All: I wonder if anyone out there knows if the Dutch name "Nys" is a nickname (possibly male), the way, for example, Neeltje is the nickname for Cornelia, is perhaps Nys the nick name for Cornelius? If so, I can look for the godfather of one of my ancestor's children, recorded as being "Nys Hegeman" and really look for him as "Cornelius Hegeman". Yes, I am digging up the bones, here... Cheers
Greetings, all: I am new to this list. I am researching the Weidknecht family. Johannes George Weidknecht is found in Somerset county, NJ, as of 1710. He baptized most of his children (at least 13 of them) in Harlingen Church,Montgomery Twp.,Somerset,NJ. He raised his family, later, in "Hillsboro Township". He was active in the North Branch of the Reformed Dutch Church, and closely associated with they Stryker and Van Metre families. Is anyone researching the Weidknechts (Whitnah, Whiteneck, Whitenack) family; the Strykers or Van Metre families, or the Hegemen (Hegeman) families in Somerset county? Also, any "Buys" family information, as Johannes G.'s wife, Neeltje (Nederlander) may have been a Buys, and I am hoping to uncover her father, Cornelius Buys. More info available on this german - dutch family, if any of this strikes a chord... Cheryl L. I am looking for information about the family of William K. Gray and Fanny Grannis. William K. Gray was probably born in East Orange, NJ in about 1822. Fanny Grannis was b. about 1827 in Goshen, Orange County, NY, and died after 1889. They were married in 1845 in Goshen. Their children were: William K. Gray, b. about 1854 Thomas Claughley Gray, b. 3/10/1854 in Liberty Corner, Bernards Township, Somerset Mary Gray (later Sanger ) b. 1856 possibly in Goshen, NY Edward Gray b. about 1858 Henry Gray b. May 6, 1858 in Madison, Chatham Twp., Morris County, NJ Thomas N. Gray, b. before 1853. This family seems to have been fairly well-educated. Many of them were doctors, and some practiced in and around East Orange. I have much additional information about them, but nothing back beyond William and Fanny. Joseph Cain's service in the NJ Rev. War Militia can be found in "Official Register of the Officers and Men of New Jersey", compiled by William S. Stryker, Adjudant General, 1872; reprinted 1993 by Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, MD; Vol 2, p.528. I think many libraries may have copies. I found this in Special Collections - Genealogy, Largo Library, Largo, FL. Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: Burnett H. Hi--I spent the better part of yesterday entering all the names from teh Booklet on Warren Twp History into Excel. Then I was able to alphabetize it and consolidate page numbers under each name. There were over 600 names in the book. For those who have written to me asking for a check, I know now who is in there! I will get to your notes later today and send personal responses. Anyone else interested in Warren Twp residents from 1700's to 1976, can email me for a lookup. Debbie

Hello List Members, I have been researching my husband's CAIN ancestors who were in New Jersey in the mid 1700's. I have just discovered that Joseph Cain(Rev War Veteran) married Margaret PERRINE of Bound Brook about 1790. I believe that Joseph was the son of Walter and Maryanna Cain who died in Amwell Twp.and had Wills probated abt. 1778 and 1791 in Hunterdon Co. Their children were Margaret,b.abt.1791,James,Joseph,b.1794,and Eliza. We descend from Joseph,b.1794;who served in the War of 1812.He married Polly "Mary"SAYRE July 14,1832 in Springfield Presbyterian Church,Springfield,NJ.They lived in Bridgewater Twp. They are buried in Bound Brook Presbyterian Cemetery.Joseph died 1866 and Mary in 1893 I would like to hear from anyone researching the PERRINE or CAIN descendents or anyone with information on these ancestors. Margaret Perrine CAIN died in 1858 and is buried in the Bound Brook Presbyterian Cemetery. There is also a Sarah, wife of James who died 1835 at 26 years of age,and a child Mary age 7,who died in 1843.I have no idea who her parents were. I have very little information on the Cain's and Perrine's and will appreciate any and all assistance. Will be happy to share what I do know of these ancestors. Thank you, Barbara Cain Brielle,N.J.
