    1. Barb-look-up

    3. Thank you Barb for doing look-ups. I have a problem family, the Rials. They pop across the Morris/Somerset border constantly. I find them one time in Morris and the next time in Somerset. Here is my trail. Daniel Rial b 1738 in Somerset, son Isaac b in 1760 in Morris, son Daniel living all of his life in Somerset after he moved from Morris (sometime after the Rev. War) The wives are also a problem. I know nothing about them and can't seem to find them. They are Daniel's wife-Phoebe Kenan and Isaac's wife-Catherine DeVore. (can't find Morris marriages for them-maybe Somerset.) The children of Daniel and Phoebe are Isaac, Mary, Daniel, Halsey, Samuel, ?Sarah(Sally)?and Joseph. Mary m a Luse, ?Sarah? m a Buck, Joseph m a Stryker, and maybe a Phoebe.. (The reson ?Sarah? is in question is that a Sarah (Sally) did m a Buck but we can't positively tie her into Daniel's family.) If this is too much of a trial for you to do a look-up, tell me how you would like it worded and I will try again. Again thank you for the offer. Peg

Any leads or help on Neshanic wouyld be greatly appreciated. Thank you Darrell KITCHEN kitchen@erinet.com

    3. I have seen a lot of questions about Somerset County in NJ since I have joined the list serve. I am surprised at how many different townships are in the county. I am from GA but my grandfather Frederic Earle Staats is from Somerset County--Griggstown or Belle Mead is where he attended the Dutch Reformed Church. He moved south after the Big War (WWI not WWII). His family has lived in Somerset since the early 1700's. Could anyone tell me more about the area? How large is the county? Population? Etc? My grandfather passed away in 1968 before I was old enough to be really interested in where my ancestors came from. Thanks for any and all information. 1. Clover Hill and Montgomery Cemeteries
    2. There is a cemetery in Clover Hill (on Rainbow Hill Rd), in Montgomery Twp, Somerset Co, which is on the border of East Amwell, Hunterdon Co. There are also two small cemeteries just west of the intersection of Montgomery Rd and Wertsville Rd. I am wondering if there is anyone living nearby, or planning a visit there soon, who could see if some of my Lake ancestors are buried in these places. I usually don’t ask for look ups, since I do most of my own research by visiting vital records in Trenton. But in this case, I can’t find death records, so I thought I should try something else. I am looking for Henry and Ann Lake. Both were alive in the 1870 census. Also looking for Nicholas Lake, and John and Mercy (Lake) Fink. They lived in the Wertsville - Reaville area. I have gone through cemeteries in East Amwell when I had a chance to go out that way, but never thought to check just across the border in Somerset Co. Sincerely, Jim LaRue

James's father was Peter Wortman Garretson and his mother Caroline Van Neste Field. Siblings were George, Anna, Carrie, Jennie. Anna married William M. Staats. No male descendants of George Garretson survive. If Lester and Harold, sons of James, had children, we would be interested in knowing about it. Many thanks. James Pearsall East Millstone, NJ

    3. Greetings: Are you looking for a death record from 1978? I want to be certain that the date you typed is correct. It seems strange that the newspaper doesn't have records only 20 years old? You may attempt to contact the hospital(s) in Scotch Plains, or her family. I would contact the Library again, they may just be a little chaotic. Ask them for possible churches in the town, contact them for records, also, ask the library for the names of the funeral parlors, who will certainly have some data as to what church services might have been at, and shat cemetary she was buried in. In lieu of the Library, ask these things of the Chamber of Commerce, Funeral parlors, churches, all Newspapers in Town. Can you see if any Gartlands live in town? Old age homes? Really grill the Library, they should be able to give you more than the obituary, it seems. Ask them where else you could go to get a copy of the obituary from that paper. There may be other Librarys in the region to carry the archives... Cheryl L. I obtained many letters and information from the Somerset Historical Society a few weeks ago. There were letters between a Mabel Van Nostrand, and a Charles MILLER who lived in Missouri. He had been raised near the Cain Farm and most likely was related but I have been unable to make that connection yet.He also exchanged letters with a Mrs John Hall.Mabel Van Nostrand speaks of her father being the son of Joseph and Mary Sayre Cain.If anyone recognizes her name or descendents,I would like to contact them. If anyone knows where the Compton-Castner Burying Ground is located please let me know.I would like to visit it,as I will be in that area in two weeks. 2. Debbie, I'd like to take advantage of your generous lookup offer. My grgrgrandfather, SAMUEL JENNINGS b 1807 (probably in Somerset Co) was found in Somerset Co, Warren twp on the 1830 census. I believe his father to be JOHN JENNINGS also on the same census record. SAMUEL was married on July 31, l828 to FANNY PEARSON by Morgan R. Cox, minister of Mt Bethel Baptist Church. It looks as if Fanny may have died within 10 years after the marriage as Samuel remarried in Northampton Co, Pa. about 1841 or 1842. Any information on these ancestors would be sincerely appreciated. 1. Lydia and Edward LEWIS
    2. I desparately need the proof of parentage of my ancestor, Lydia Lewis KIRKPATRICK, who was born around 1742. Her father was an Edward LEWIS. She married John KIRKPATRICK (1729-1822) in Basking Ridge, Somerset Co in 1759/60, where they were both born. They are buried in the Yellow Frame Cemetery, Freyeinghuysen Twp., Warren Co. I have come across an Edward LEWIS (1722-1792) who married Sarah MORRIS (1728-1808) 30 May 1745. All events took place in Basking Ridge. DAR papers show their children as Joseph, Edward Jr. and Sarah, but no mention of a Lydia. I also show Lydia as being born around 1742 and this Edward and Sarah were not married until 1745. Could there have been an earlier unknown marriage? Can anyone connect Lydia to her father, Edward Lewis? Thank you, Gerry

    3. Greetings, Edward Bunn (1738-?) was a son of Gerrit Bunn and Mary Unknown and was married to Catharine Unknown. He was a paymaster for Somerset County for the state troops during the Revolution. He was also a representative in the General Assembly for Somerset County. I believe he had at least two children, Edward (bc 1761 at Branchville) and Mary (bc 1755) who was married to Lucas Hoagland. I'm looking for information on any other children of Edward and Catherine. I'm trying to determine if he had a daughter Rachel who was born in 1761and was married to Isaac Howell of Chester, Morris County. Regards, Rick Novak
