There were many enumerators that added things into the census that were not called for. One that comes to mind is writting the street names, vertically, in the left hand margin of the page. The heading in that column of the 1860 census reads "Place of birth, naming State, Territory or Country". The enumerator in Salem either misread 'Country' as 'County', or he decided to include the county on his own. At any rate, it sure helps the genealogists in their search for their ancestors!!
