    3. Marc - I know that Oystering was a big industry in Southern New Jersey in the time frame you're referring to. At one point there was a cannery in Bridgeton, which is merely a hop, skip and jump from Salem County. It would not surprise me if there was one in Salem as well. I know from doing look-ups for people that there were an awful lot of oysterman in the Cumberland and Salem Counties back in the early 1900's. If there wasn't one in Salem, it's possible they worked at the one in Bridgeton, but, given the time frame and transportation, I'd go more with the thought that there had to have been one in Salem.
