My 4Xgreatgrandmother Judith FIRTH, nee Vickery, was buried in 1780 in Friend's Ground, Salem, NJ. Does this cemetery still exist? or perhaps a list of those buried there? Linda McDowell in CA
"Friend's Ground, Salem, NJ" is probably referring to the cemetery at Salem Friends Meeting which is still there. I expect a burial record exists, but I would not know where to look off-hand - I'd first try contacting the meeting or the Friends Historical Library at Swarthmore College. Firths and Vickerys *do* appear in the minutes of Salem Meeting. Meeting minute extracts published in "Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy," Volume II, by William Wade Hinshaw include: VICKARY [Note spelling] Edward & Sarah Ch: Hannah b. 5- 6-1723 Rebeckah b. 12-13-1725 FIRTH John, son of John & Sarah, b. 7- 3-1718 John & Judith Ch: Ezra b. 1-24-1744 Sarah b. 9-13-1747 Elizabeth b. 5- 2-1751 John b. 8-26-1754 John b. 9- 5-1757 I'd recommend first checking Hinshaw for additional Firth records and then tracking down the original minutes (probably at Swarthmore) for any additional information not included in the Hinshaw extracts.
