The first I give with a fuller transcription by manner of example. All others follow the same format, a preprinted form about the size of a check, the blanks filled in by hand, with the one exception noted at the end and the reverse side giving the accounting for the payment of the debt from the state. No. 591 The State of New Jersey is indebted unto Richard Worth in the sum of Four pounds and nine pence being for a Debt due to him from the forfeited Estate of Robert Whitaker which Sum shall be paid unto the said Richard Worth or to his lawful Reprecentative,(sic) in Specie, with Interest at the Rate of 2% Per Annum, from the first Day of September 1781 Witness my Hand this 25th day of July 1786. One handwritten page: Please to pay the Bearer, Isaac Bassete what money is Due to the Estate of Israel Laurence from the Confisticated Estate of Thomas Lamb and youll Oblige and sd Bassetts Recipt shall be your Discharge Same Elizabeth Laurence (her mark) Executrix To the treasurer of the state of Newjersey. On the reverse is handwritten No. 625 and the ammount L9..9..3 under the name of Thomas Lambe and some other writing /names, mainly illegible so I don't try to reproduce them. This is the fuller source for the information in all three of today's posts,, as it was found in the State Archives at Trenton.
