Quoting Cyndi Brown <lv2beasahm@comcast.net>: "John Jacob Astor IV married Miss Madeleine Talmage Force at 9:55 am on 10 September 1911. ((clip)) The baby boy was, of course, John Jacob Astor V. He was born on 14 August 1912. -------------------- Actually, even though he was the son of IV, the baby's numeral was VI. The V had already been used by the English Astors, who were also direct heirs of John Jacob Astor I. For that matter, JJ the 2nd, who was either mentally retarded or mentally ill, was not the father of JJ the 3rd. They apparently went by "first come, first named." I did go to the website Cyndi named; thanks. Interesting how Madeleine gave her age as 20 to reporters the day of the wedding, when even by the time of the Titanic disaster she was only 18 and 9 mos. I wish that website, or my book, had a photo of JJ IV's first, lavish wedding with Ava. That would have to be the PINNACLE of American Astor events, I would think. And, that took place in Phila., so we're NEAR the interest of the Salem List (laughing). ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.
