One of my ancestors died in 1849 in Washington Neck, NJ. Where is Washington Neck located? In what county? Her husband died in Gloucester County in 1864 but I do not know where they were living in 1849. I assume it might be Washington Neck. I would appreciate any information. I tried google with no luck and did an internet search with no luck. Am hoping one of you researches might know this location. Janet, Washington Neck, also know as Washington Point Neck, is located in Gloucester County, on the Delaware River where Woodbury Creek enters and on the north side of the creek. It is just south of the Red Bank Battlefield .... near National Park and Thorofare. I found it at the US Geographic Names Information (GNIS) site and it lists the Longitude and Latitude as: Lat. Long. Decimal 39.8645576 -75.1937910 Deg. Min. Sec. 39 51 52N 075 11 38W I think that this was also the site of Washington Park, an amusement park of the early 1900's. It's mentioned in my great grandfather's obit of 1939: "Mr. Sipple claimed to have introduced the clambake on a big scale some 33 years (ago) when he presided over a bake in Cincinnati. Later, he became a chef at Washington Park, former amusement resort on the Delaware below Gloucester." I also vaguely recall a sign on the parking lot of Auletto's Caterers, in Almonesson, that said that years ago there used to be some kind of train or streetcar that ran between the two. Hope this helps, Joe Klaudi
