Hi Can I get copies of Orphan's court records for 1867 at the Salem County Courthouse? Thanks Nancy
I wanted to add to what Val said. I wrote to the Salem County Courthouse asking a question about their holdings for the Orphans Court and if they'd have more information than the transcribed minutes that I had regarding my gg grandma's guardianship. (I sent them a copy of the page) They took the liberty to search through their records and say that no, they didn't.. and then they sent me a bill for $10! Later when I was able to get to the archives, I found that they were wrong, there was a page with my 4th great grandpa and Joseph Coombs regarding the guardianship of my gg grandmother and her brothers and sister after the sudden death of her parents. My 3gg died in 1857/8. I'd recommend looking for yourself in the archives or the other methods Val suggested. -andrea On 7/4/07, Nancy M. Andrea, I have some Salem County Coombs, namely, William and Sarah Coombs with children George, Sarah, Rachel, Isabella and William A. Rachel married Azael Nichols, my ggggrandfather, in 1808. Are these Coombs related to your Joseph Coombs? John T. Nichols Manassas, VA andrea batcho wrote: >I wanted to add to what Val said. Nancy, Gloucester County Historical Society published a "Petitions for Guardians" book taken from the minutes of the Salem Co. Orphans' Court. I peeked at my copy, and it appears to cover 1802-1900. I don't know whether you already have this book and are basing your search on it, or if you haven't seen it and it might be helpful. If you want me to look someone(s) up for you, it would be no problem at all. Good luck! --Amy On Jul 4, 2007, at 12:26 PM, Nancy M. I would love that Amy. The guardian was William Bicking and their were 2 children of deceased Richard Bicking and his wife Mary Rebecca Bicking. The date was about 1867. Thanks so much.
