    1. [NJSALEM] John Moore Family
    2. Barbara McCornick
    3. Hi Em...... I just got back from the Swedesboro area......spent a week of roaming through cemeteries and court houses. I do tombstone transcribing in Salem/Gloucester/Cumberland Counties and was at Trinity on Thursday. I haven't come across John Moore and his family. He could be buried at Trinity Cemetery that surrounds the church......most of those tombstones are unreadable. I have just been transcribing the ones at Trinity #2 (abt. 2 blocks from the church). The 1876 Atlas shows W. H. Hannold (the town's undertaker) living next to the Hotel. John Moore's grandson, Ezekiel is buried at Lake Park in Swedesboro. Ezekiel's son, Jacob Justice Moore is buried in Mullica Hill Baptist Cemetery. His son, John, is buried at Eglington.........so they run the gamut. I wish I could be more help to you. However, if I come across something, I'll be sure to let you know. I have been doing genealogy for about 20 years now. Didn't get my first computer till Oct. 1996, so everything was done by "pony express" (postal mail) and phone calls. I did all my family group sheets by hand, and have over twenty, five-inch binders that I still keep updated today. I have been using Familytreemaker, starting with 3.5 and upgrading every time. I also have a full subscription to Ancestry.com, so I can help with some look-ups. I currently live in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. I have two grown daughters who live out on t! heir own, and also a certified foster mom. I have also gotten involved with scrap booking for 6 years now. Ancestry and scrapping work well together. Willing to trade/share my data with anyone working on the same names. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This would be for my great grand father Bernard PICKHOLTZ and a Bluma BERNSTEIN. I don't know where it took place or when. That is the problem. I do know they both arrived in the USA in 1890, and the marriage definatly took place after Jan. 1, 1892 and no later than 1900. The last know area of residence for both people was around the Pittsgrove area (I think). After 1900 they are listed as married and living in Phila according to the census. Phila. records have been searched for this time period. Thank you. Stephen Pickholtz Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Her name was Sara PICKHOLTZ. She is buried at the Alliance cemetery, in Pittsgrove, NJ. The Pittsgrove grovement informed me that all of their death records are missing from that period. Salem County can't help me since I don't know where she died. Likewise the State Archives office has not been of any help for the same reason. I know the last name in other records has been spelled with a T, D, R insteadof the P for Pickholtz and in some cases the "T" has been left out. Other variations of the name have been Pikholtz and Pichols. What I also know is her husband's name was Bernard Pickholtz and her maiden name was BERNSTEIN and they arrived in the USA in 1890. Also there was a scarlet fever out break durning this time period. I would like to know what town she lived in, where she died and what she died of. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you. The only info I really need is anything on his father,Thomas Smedley, Sr. The whole family was told that he died in 1851, but he actually sailed to the US with his son and daughter in law. I have not been able to find anything on Thomas Sr, after he arrived in the US. I was hoping that he would have been living with his son in New Jersey, but they are not listed in the 1860 census. He was a brickmaker. Leslie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

I am trying to locate my great grandfather Thomas Joynes Smedley. He was a brick and tile maker and he sold large numbers of drain tile to farmers. He moved his business to Delaware in 1861. I know he was in Salem County, from 1857-1861, but I can't locate his family in the 1860 census at all. Any info would be greatly appreciated. 1. [NJSALEM] 2 new Swedish Church history books - and a special event
    2. Valerie N.Caulfield
    3. Thought some of the locals might have interest in this event: The Genealogical Society of Salem County, in observance of the 15th Anniversary of their founding, in conjunction with the Colonial Swedes Society, are hosting a Book Signing for the two new Swedish church books by Dr. Peter S. Craig and Rev. Kim-Eric Williams. This takes place tomorrow, Saturday, May 19th from 1- 3 PM in Woodstown, Salem County, NJ at the Friends Village Community Center. The first two volumes in a series; Colonial Records of the Swedish Churches in Pennsylvania. Volume 1 is subtitled The Log Churches at Tinicum Island and Wicaco 1646-1696. Volume 2 is subtitled The Rudman Years, 1697-1702. These books cover the earliest Colonial period, of the Swedish churches on the western side of the Delaware, but there are references to the Jersey people as well. Some material is newly translated, or otherwise unpublished. Some was found in Archives in Sweden. Each book is 240 pages, in a library binding and includes an every-name index. Directions: The Friends Village is located on Rt. 40 East - about a mile from the light in the center of town which is the junction of Rts. 40 and 45, and not far past the High School on the right hand side as you head for the shore. There are two large green signs announcing the Friend's Village at the entrance. Stay to your left as you go back the drive, and look for the flag pole and the building with the large covered porch, which is the Fenwick Center. There is ample free parking, as well as handicapped access. The books can be purchased at the event or follow the links via either of these websites: www.colonialswedes.org or www.old-swedes.org. Unfortunately, Dr. Craig is unable to attend but it will be a great opportunity to meet the Rev. Williams and many of your cousins from Salem County and/or of Swedish descent, plus save yourself the cost of shipping. Genealogical Society members will get an additional discount. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free to the public. All are invited to attend. Some on this list might remember that the first official function hosted by the Genealogical Society of Salem County, was a tea and book signing featuring Dr. Craig and his then newly published 1693 Census of the Swedes. Hard to believe that was 15 years ago now. I think most of us are thankful to him and to the Colonial Swedes Society for their invaluable contributions over the years, as well as to the GSSC. Hope I see you there. Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might have interest. Val
