The Congleton yDNA Project has been established at Family Tree DNA. In 1790, there were families with the Congleton surname living in Delaware, New Jersey, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. In the early years of the 19th century, descendants of these families moved into Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Ohio and West Virginia. It is the goal of this project to identify how many genetically different families they represent, establish the genetic pedigree of each family and to try to determine where these families originated in the Old World. yDNA test subjects MUST be MEN with the CONGLETON surname, who were not adoped, nor whose male ancestors were not adopted into the Congleton family. Tests are available for 12, 25, 37 and 67 markers. I recommend being tested for at least 37 markers, and prefer project members to be tested for 67 markers. Before beginning my first project, I realized men who had been tested at 12 or 25 markers did not find the results to be definitive. They would then upgrade to 37 or 67 markers. Every time you upgrade, in addition to the lab fees, there is an administrative charge. In the long run, it is cheaper to do the 67 marker test and get all the information at once. The test is easy to do, it requires taking several scrapings from the inside of the mouth, depositing the scrapers in the vials provided and mailing them to the laboratory. It usually takes about 8-12 weeks to receive the test results. To see what test results from a yDNA project look like, please visit: www.familytreedna.com/public/VanHorne. If you have other questions, please get in touch with me at: msvnhrn@jps.net. Marleen Van Horne Congleton yDNA Project Manager

The marriage info I am seeking is that of my great grandfather Bernard PICKHOLTZ and his second wife Bluma BERNSTEIN. From what info I know is correct she was the above Sara's sister. This marriage I beleive took place in south Jersey somewhere between 1892 and 1900. The 1900 census list them as married and living in Phila. Phila records have been searched from 1892 to 1910 with no results. You mentioned a Nancy PICKHOLTZ. What info do you have on her? Where did it come from? This could help me and or members of the PICKHOLTZ research group. Thanks. Steve Pickholtz Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The stone says she died January 1, 1892. I've searched, but can't find any marriage, or death records as of yet. Also members of your family are in Montefiore Cemetery as you probably know. Do you have any more information on Nancy Pickholtz? Did she marry or change her name? Was her last know address Alliance, Norma, or somewhere else? Just so you know, Alliance, Norma, Union Grove, Willow Grove, Centerton, Brotmanville, Palatine, etc. were combined into Pittsgrove, NJ. I will check the township records further as I'm doing some history on Alliance and the First Alliance Jewish Settlement. I am seeking a connection between THOMAS PILE (b. London, d. Piles Grove 1695), whose daughter Elizabeth (d. 1699) married William Hall (b. Dublin, Ireland, died 1728 in Salem) and HANNAH PILE, daughter of John Pile, who married Samuel Smith (d.1738). Samuel and Hannah both died in Mannington, Salem County, New Jersey. Samuel and Hannah (Pile) Smith are one of my sets of 7th great-grandparents, and had a son named Pile Smith. Thus I would like to know if Thomas Pile is also an ancestor. They both had associations with Piles Grove. Accordingly to the will of Pile Smith there was litigation going on at that time regarding Piles Grove. I would also like to know about that litigation; i.e. who were the parties, what was the argument, etc. Barbara Barbara L. de Mare, Esq.
