My mother started her search 40 years ago and as much as I tried was unable to break the link between Edward Smith Bacon and local Bacon families in New Jersey. However, I was able to find a little more on the Cox side. If you ever want to brain storm, I would be willing. Sincerely, Kathleen Barbee Edward Smith Bacon my great great grandfather also

Hello, I have as some of you know been trying to locate my 4th great grandfather Lorenzo Keen and his wife Mary Dougherty Keen for many years now. Every so often I get little tibits now and then but not very much. I just searched the 1830 Census of NJ (Salem, Co. Pilesgrove) and found him listed with a few extra children. I then decided to check the 1820 Census and NJ is not available. What happened to the 1820 Census for NJ? Thank You, Robin Stinson

That term carries a bad connotation. Joan

Hi, Did it always mean this person was bad by taking advantage of people? I found him listed in the 1910 Census and under #19 of Occupation it had Jail. I guess that answers my question. He married Gertrude SWEENY (1871 PA -1953 CA) daughter of James SWEENY & my 4G aunt, Elizabeth M'COLLISTER) at my uncle Harry's old house in Swedesboro in 1892. Their son, Harry Earl BOOGAR (1895 NJ - 1958 CA), later moved to California (LA area) and had a daughter, Ella Marion. They kept in touch with my great-grandmother for quite awhile, but after some of the older family members passed away, we lost touch. Looking for parents of Harry Sr. and siblings, wife or other children for Harry Earl. Attn Boogar researchers: I have an adorably posed b&w pic of Ella Marion (age 4, circa 1910) taken around Xmas in a Los Angeles photo studio. I can email a size-reduced scan without much fuss. I located Harry Sr. in 1900 and 1910, 1900 in Camden, 1910 in Los Angeles. It gives his birth as Feb. 1868, and place of birth as NJ, as well as both his parents, I can't locate him in 1880. Gertrude is listed, in 1900 as 5/1872, she PA, her parents PA. Ella Marion is listed as Marion E. in 1900, after 1900, she's listed in 1910 and 1920 as Ella M. In 1900, Gertrude had 2 children, both living, in 1910, she lists 3 children, 2 living, so, there was one between 1900 and 1910 that died. In 1920, all are still living, and the children still reside with their parents. In 1930, Gertrude is listed as a widow and daughter, this time Marion is 30 and still living with her mother. According to California Death Index, Harry Earl's name was actually Earl Harry Boogar. I've tried every possible way I can think of to search and cannot find anything on Harry Earl/Earl Harry except the CA Death Index. Take care - Deb >From: "Robin M. Hi, Where was the closest Sanitarium for Salem County, NJ? If someone got TB in 1866 where or what would be done with them? Thank You, Mrs. Robin M. Stinson PS: Are death certificates kept in Salem with the other records? If so from what years? RMS
In a message dated 6/11/03 2:31:12 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: > Consumption. Is this the same as TB? Yes Robin -- TB was called "consumption" because it consumed the whole body with terrible wracking coughing spasms in later stages of the disease. There was no cure and often other members of a family also came down with Tuberculosis. Where they were sent in NJ I don't know but they were sent off to Sanitariums to isolate them and usually they were in the country for the benefits of "fresh air." Joan
Hello, I have a question. My 4th gr. grandfather Lorenzo D. Keen died in July 1866 of Consumption. Is this the same as TB? If so where were patients sent in 1866? He lived in Sharptown as a Butcher. He is not buried in our families cemetery at ME Church in Sharptown. His OBIT does not say much. Did they cremate people back then if they had TB? Thanks, Robin Stinson researching: (from the So.
