Hi Robin, Not quite sure what you are asking. I am certain familiar with "deeds and legal stuff" in general as I am a lawyer. Not sure if this is a general or specific question. My 2gr-grandfather was George (aka Georg) Schalk (also seen as "Shilich" in the 1860 census for Stoe Creek Twp, Cumberland Co.). The current spelling is Schalick (the high school in Pittsgrove is named for my grandfather, Arthur P. Schalick). George was born in Alsace, August 11, 1823, and immigrated to America sometime before 1858. His Declaration of Intention to become a citizen was signed on October 16, 1858 in Bridgeton. George died on March 8, 1874 in Roadstown -- his will was proved March 28, 1874. The Schalick plot in the Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton contains six spaces. Cemetery records indicate only five internments: Mary A. (wife), Josephine M. Schalick (daughter), Edward Schalick (son), Hannah A. Hannon (wife of Edward) and Hazel T. Schalick (daughter of Edward). The cemetery did not open until 1888. The records do not indicate that George's remains were transfered. We believe his remains may still be in a cemetery in the Roadstown area and his name on the Overlook monument may only be a memorial. This is a mystery our family has been trying to solve for many years. Our primary sleuth who still lived in So NJ, my uncle, A. P. Schalick, Jr., passed away in 2003. Any help is appreciated. I found this in the salem list archives from feb 2004. "The cemetery you mention on Ferry Rd (or between there and Main St) is the Old Quohawking Presbyterian, (Quohocking, Quihawken, Quohaken, etc.) and few of the stones are still very legible. Craig's Salem County Genealogical Data Vol. 1 includes some inscriptions for this one on pages 320-21, (he only included dates for those before 1800) and the Salem County Historical Society has volumes of Cemetery Inscriptions that may have more in them. Depends when the data was gathered, how recent entries will be. " This would bein Pennsville. Which, the way I look at the map was a neat trick, if you could do it. I was thrilled to find your emails in my messages. My daughter Cynthia (BabyGreens@aol.com) had forwarded them to me. Yes, Yes, Yes'!!!! I want to buy 3 of your CDs and anything else that you may have on that line. We have had so much fun visiting Salem, Shiloh, Bowentown, etc. and looking up family history. I took my husbands aunt to the cemetery at the Seventh-day Baptist Church in Shiloh, NJ. She had grown up in Shiloh but had never been allowed to go to the cemetery. By the time I took her she was in her 70s, it was raining sleet and bitterly cold. She would jump out of the car and run and see a tombstone and exclaim, "That's Uncle____" or Aunt_____". Then she would jump back in the car to try and warm up again. I could not believe the number of family that were buried there. She is dead now but that is one family history excursion I will never forget. So, if you have done anything on that cemetery please let me know. My husbands family are the Bowen's, Brooks, Stanleys, Davis. Incidently on one of our trips (my husband & I) we were trying to find BOWENTOWN. There were directions but no town. Finally we stopped at a farm and asked where Bowentown was. They laughed and said, "You are standing in it." Then we asked about the cemetery in Bowentown (which was what we were looking for). They directed us to a lane off in the distance and then down by the creek and to where the church (has been moved) and the cemetery were. The 2 fellows were from the Davis family. We found the cemetery which is almost obliterated now and where some of the family are buried. There is a marker for the Cemetery and I think Timothy Brooks is buried there as well as Patience Brooks (my husbands family.). I certainly hope that you receive this email and you will send me the information as to where to send the check. For us this is a gold mine. Sincerely, Leona & David Parsons
Type into your search engine, the name of the cemetery then + swedesboro, Ny and you will find all you need to know about it.

Was your James Sutton/ Peterson either born, married, or d. in S. Jersey, please? Or in Pa.? How about the others you mention? It sounds as if your James had a 2-YO son (and maybe other children) by the time he enlisted as a Loyalist, presumably in 1776. Did James marry a Peterson? Do you have Abit/Abbott connections, Darwin/Derwin, or Blew? The residence pattern followed by your Sutton/Petersons may help detect where my Loyalist ancestor Reuben Langley went, between 1778 and 1796.-- Dolores Quoting gingera@charter.net: > Thank you both........I am from the line of James Sutton/Peterson b 1746 > who had a son Uriah Peterson b.1774 m.
