    1. [NJPASSAI-L] GenConnect postings - important helps
    2. Diane Ward Sives
    3. As I am reviewing the GenConnect postings; I am coming up with some very interesting things. I am going to cover some of the more common errors here: Surname Field: If you put Ward, Sives in the subject; that does NOT mean that you don't have to fill in the surname field. The surname field is the only one used for Surname Helper searches; and MUST be filled in or no one will see your posting. Make sure you post ALL the surnames in your query in the Surname Field. Also, make sure that ALL the surnames in the surname field are mentioned in your query. Place ALL variant spellings in the surname field too. Query helps: Make mention of the county or a town with in the county in your query. If you know the town within the county that your ancestors are from: then by all means mention it in the query. You need all the help you can get so place those towns in the query. Try to give a time span. If your ancestors were there in the early 1700s that is far different than if they migrated in 1870 from the old country. You don't have to be totally specific; but just give "about" dates. There is an option for reviewing the query; make use of it and check for typos. Most of us use TASL which means "Typos as a Second Language" Responding to a Query: Make sure you change the surname field to the surnames you are responding to. Deed Boards, Obit Boards, Bible Records, Pensions, Biographies: Please only post actual deeds, obits, Bible Records, Pensions, Biographies to those boards. Do not post a request for deeds, obits, Bible Records, and pensions to these boards. These types of queries will be deleted and moved to the Query board. When you see a deed, obit, Bible Record, Pension, Biography: Please do not respond to it on that board. Respond to it directly to the individual who posted it or formulate a query and place it on the query board. Thanks for reading this far and for making our lives a bit easier. Diane Ward Sives
