Following is information handwritten on the inside cover pages of Biographical Volume 2 of the book The Passaic Valley NJ in Three Centuries by John Whitehead, LL.D., Editor, 1901: I have no idea who wrote this information but thought that it should be posted here since it was found in the above book that I borrowed through interlibrary loan and is probably the only one of its kind. Hope it helps someone. Front pages: Barrell Land owning Knights of Normandy France, came over with William the Conqueror 1066 and spread over all (unreadable) of England. HARRY F. BARRELL Native of Herefordshire but sailed from St. Michael, South Elmham Suffolk in 1637 for Boston George Barrell, Cooper, died in Boston Sept. 11th 1643, admitted freeman 1643 (owned a house on SE Hanover St between Elm and Washington Sts., wife Anne, Cooper by trade. 1. John Barrell, born in Herefordshire England June 4th 1618. Admitted freeman 1643. In 1644 he married Mary daughter of Elder Wm Colbron or Colbourne, one of the founders of Boston. She was born Aug 8th 1625. He died in Boston August 29th, 1658. Member of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co and its Ensign in 1656. Indian (unreadable) Rev. Co by Oliver A. Roberts. 2. John Barrell, born Feb. 19th, 1656 in Boston, Mariner and ship owner, died there in 1741, will dated 1727. He is buried in Old Granary Burying Ground in Boston. His 2nd wife was Abiela (Ardell) Beards. 3. John Barrell, born in Boston Mass., Aug 20, 1707, Shipping Merchant wealthy and well educated, died in London England in 1781 and is buried in Bunhill Fields. In 1729 (July 12th) he married Ruth Green sister of the wit & poet Joseph Green - 13 children. Joseph Barrell, born Feb. 28th, 1740 died Oct. 13th 1804, 7th child of John (3) and Ruth Green. Wealthy merchant - lived in grand style. Married 3rd wife Sarah Si(unreadable) nee Webb, daughter of Joseph & Me(unreadable) Webb. George Barrell, 1788 - 1870, first Broker on Wall St. N.Y., married Eliza Laycraft 1799 - 1867 Henry F. John Wisner, Soldier, Farmer, 2nd son of above - officer in French and Indian Wars and Revolution. Henry Wisner, Soldier, mem of Legislature (unreadable), Lieut.Col. in Revolutionary War and representative in N.Y. Legislature 1776 to 1782 (unreadable). Capt. Christopher Leaycraft of Bermuda - Mariner sometimes called Governor, grandsons of above Richard & George Richard Leaycraft had sons Richard - Viner - Robert Capt. Viner Leaycraft - Mariner - Capt. of Colonial Privateer, married Elizabeth Codwise, daughter of Capt. Christopher Codwise - Colonial Privateer, also Lieut. Colonel and Field officer & Paymaster Kings Co Militia The info below was written on the side of the page - am not sure with which name it belongs... Lieut in Lambs Artillery under Gen. Knox during the Revolution. One of the founders of the Society of (unreadable), born in N.Y.
