    1. GARSIDE/TAYLOR
    2. Hello, Passaic County! I am new to this list and to genealogical research, so please be understanding and correct me if i err! Last week I received the death certificate of my Edith E. GARSIDE PRENTISS. She was born on January 20, 1883 in Paterson, Passaic Co., NJ. Her parents were John GARSIDE (only know he was deceased before 1937) and Sarah C. TAYLOR GARSIDE (born January 6, 1862 in Monticello, NY and died September 21, 1951 in Kansas City, MO). I mailed a request today to New Jersey State Department of Health for Edith's birth record. Has anyone had any luck with getting birth certifications for this time period (1883)? How long does it usually take? Edith married my Harry Seargent PRENTISS on December 26, 1904 in Missouri (probably Jefferson County or St. Louis County since Harry was from DeSoto, Jefferson County, and graduated from medical school in St. Louis in 1904). So, the GARSIDE family was probably in Missouri in 1900. I haven't found them yet on a census. They moved to Kansas City in about 1911. I have also found a land grant in Callaway Co., MO for an Abram GARSIDE signed on June 10, 1857. However, an Abram GARSIDE appears in Passaic Co., Wayne Twp., NJ in the 1860 census index. I don't have any further census indices to see where they (they TAYLORs and GARSIDEs) are in 1870 and beyond. I have found on census index the following: Abraham GARSIDE in 1828 (Bergen Co., Paterson City - no page # or E.D. given), Abraham GARSIDE in 1829 (Bergen Co., Paterson City - no page # or E.D. given), Abraham GARSIDE in 1830 (Essex Co., Acquackanonk Twp - Page #401), Abraham GARSIDE in 1840 (Passaic Co., Paterson Twp. - Page #046), Then John GARSIDE in 1850 (Passaic Co., Acquackanonk Twp - Page #351), and Sarah GARSIDE (Passaic Co., Paterson Twp - Page #223), and William GARSIDE (Essex Co., N. Ward - Page #093). Abram GARSIDE in 1860 (Passaic Co., Wayne Twp - Page #599), and Benjamin GARSIDE (Passaic Co., 5 W. Paterson - Page #449), and Lees GARSIDE (Passaic Co., West W.Paterson Ci - Page #815), and Thomas GARSIDE (Passaic Co., 5 W. Paterson - Page #450). I would like to get the pages of these Census Reports. Does anyone know how I can find out who the other members of these families are and/or where to get the copies of the pages? Also, are all of these counties and townships the same place or very close to each other? Also, today I received the death certificate Sarah C. TAYLOR GARSIDE. It states that she was born in Monticello, Sullivan County, Thompson Township, New York. She was born on January 6, 1862 to Unknown TAYLOR and his Unknown wife. I am also trying to find out if they were still in Monticello, NY in 1870 and 1880, or if they had moved to New Jersey (Paterson, Passiaic Co.) where she (Sarah TAYLOR) apparently met and married John GARSIDE and had Edith on January 20, 1883. TAYLOR is such a common name for me to "guess" at Sarah's ancestors, although I did find a Crispin TAYLOR in Passaic Co, Wayne Twp in 1850 (page #153). However, in 1860 the only Crispin TAYLOR in the index is in Philadelphia Co., PA. I did find four TAYLOR families on a census index for 1850 in Sullivan Co., Thompson Twp., NY. 1) David TAYLOR, page #041, 2) Mary TAYLOR, page #044, 3) Phebe TAYLOR, page #033, and 4) Samuel TAYLOR, page #042. And, I have found two TAYLOR families on a census index for 1860 in Sullivan Co., Thompson Twp., NY. 1) Mary W. TAYLOR, page #078, and 2) Alexander TAYLOR, page #085. Again, I do not have access to an index for 1870 or 1880, so I am trying to find out if they were in Monticello, NY or if the TAYLORs had moved to New Jersey (Paterson, Passiaic Co.) where she (Sarah TAYLOR) apparently met and married John GARSIDE and had Edith on January 20, 1883. I would appreciate any help or advice since I am not at all familiar with researching in the New York/New Jersey areas. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry this got so long, but I'm at a loss as to how to tackle this since I am not in that area! Patty Frazer [email protected] St. Louis, MO, USA
