    1. [NJPASSAI-L] RHODES/OLDHAM/CAHILL/TERHUNE/RYERSON
    2. J Clauss
    3. On Bergen Co.Rootsweb I saw some of the following names listed as proprietors TERHUNE, RYERSON, POST. I'm told by my grUncle Raymond CAHILL, now deceased that I'm related to TERHUNEs, and he also mentioned the Peter POST hotel.. Also, I've found my Julia RHODES, (b. 1832, NJ,) enumerated with a George RYERSON, (attorney,) family, on the 1850 Newton, Sussex Co. census, (she was 18, obviously working there.) Julia's father-in-law, Charles OLDHAM, (d. Passaic Co, 1838,) was also an attorney as well as Constable and Sherrif. I see an Albert TERHUNE, Jr. living next door to William CAHILL, (Wm. may be my ggUncle, the b.date's a little off,) on the West Milford, Passaic 1850 census. The next house is Albert TERHUNE, Sr... I know back then, they married their neighbors. I just wondered if you recognize any of these names or if you have any of them in your "family tree." Thank you for your time and help...-Judy Clauss

    2. Catherine Di Pietro
    3. "Kinnelon: A History" by Lucy A. Meyer c. 1976 (a copy in Little Falls Library) In 1883, Hubbard S. Stickle sold a large tract of land including a lake and mines to Francis Sherwood Kinney, wealthy manufacturer of Sweet Caporal cigarettes. Over the years Kinney increased the estate through the purchase of neighbooring farms (most now only street names in Smoke Rise) to 5,000 acres. He built a four- story, eight chimney "cottage" and employed over 100 men to raise prize English sheep, dogs, horses and Brown Swiss cows. Francis Kinney's children were - sons, Morris and Warren (first mayor of the town of Kinnelon - which is what Francis called his "cottage") and daughter, Beatrice nicknamed Buffy. Francis Kinney died in 1923. Hope This Helps, Cathy DiPietro [email protected] listowner: NJSussex-L, Kinney-L

    2. Jerry Velez
    3. Hi all, I wonder if you could suggest a source to obtain additional info about Acquackanonk Twp.(now Passaic)in the 1870's? I found my INDOE family, Edward, Jane TUCKER INDOE, and their 4 children there in the 1870 census. He is listed as farm laborer so I'm thinking that maybe The Labor Exchange at Castle Gdn found Edward & family work there on a farm in Acquackanonk when they first arrived in this country from England. I'm also trying to track down their naturalization papers and so would like suggestions regarding what courthouse to write to for them. Thanks for your help, I sure appreciate it! Debbie
