To Mary Huber Yes,there is a book at the Passaic County Historical Society containing the names of those transferred to other cemeteries --such as Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson. George Van Riper Fair Lawn NJ
I don't ordinarily approve of posing the following question in such a fashion, but frustration leads me to do so: Has anyone experienced this: Last December I sent 50 USD for a membership in the PCHS (20 USD) and two hrs of research (30 USD). I received a nice acknowledgment letter re the membership but nothing re the two hrs of research. This remains true even after two followup letters and three followup emails on my part. I did receive one phonecall three months ago, but nothing since. Is this atypical?? John Polhemus
Hello List I don't know if this has been answered or not but this is what I've found out. I understand there is a unpublished list of Sandy Hill Cemetary Removals and that the Paterson Historical Society and the Paterson Museam have a copy. This book contains those that were not removed privately, but those that were moved by the church or the city.
Is anyone on this list familiar with the Kopp Clothing Company of Clifton? Is it still in operation? Where might I find out information about the Kopp family? Kathleen Craine Chicago
I posted three Social Security Forms on my web site. Hopefully, someone can claim these folks. Two ALTHENS and one FISK. I've ordered 8 more and I will post them when they come. New page is called Social Security Forms and comes with a picture of me by my pool :) Sandy Hart, RootsWeb Donor http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/5372/

Rootsweb has corrected the URL in the mailing list area of Rootsweb so that it now points back to Passaic County as it should. Diane Ward Sives
Listers: searching for info on Viola WRIGHT, who lived in Paterson 1908 on Fair St. when she married. Parents were Samuel Wright and Minnie Coulter. She was b. in Brooklyn, NY. She married Albert ALLEN; they may have been divorced. Any help appreciated. [email protected]
Katie Demayo, Welcome and thanks for taking the list. Here's your first (I hope) problem. Rootsweb page of mailing lists needs a correction and I don't know how to do it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/us/ne-ny.html#New Jersey They have the NJPASSAI-L listed as: http://www.rootsweb.com/~njpassa/ They left off the last i. I wonder how many people tried to get on this list and couldn't. I hope you can correct this. Thanks, Claire
I'm a new subscriber (and researcher) to this list. Is there a statewide death index for NJ that would cover 1920--present? Or a Passaic County death index for the same time period? Also, what would be the most likely newspaper for the city of Passaic in the 1930's and 1940's? Also, when I subscribed to this list on the Rootsweb homepage, there was a URL for the Passaic County homepage, but I received a server error accessing the site. Could someone tell me the site of the homepage (if there is one)? Thanks--- Kathleen Craine Chicago P.S.--I'm available for "swapping" research--I'll research in Chicago in exchange for research in Passaic. Please respond privately....
Searching for my ancestors Herschel (Henry) and Reichel (Rose) KOPP, who I believe lived in Passaic NJ in the 1930's. Herschel owned a clothing business in the area. This family came from Romania to NYC in the 1880's, but later (after 1920?) may have moved to Passaic. Their children, all born between 1883-1898 were: Sadie KOPP WEISS, Bessie KOPP ALTMAN (husband Leo, son Henry, daughter Sylvia), Charles KOPP (wife Anna, son Martin), Lillie KOPP (twin of Charles--married name unknown), Jacob KOPP (wife Esther, son Raymond), Max KOPP, William KOPP, and Martha KOPP (married name unknown). I believe at least one of the sons lived in Passaic, possibly more. They were in the Passaic area in the 1930's & 1940's, possibly later. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Also, what would be the most likely Jewish cemetery for this family? Thanks. Kathleen Craine Chicago

Hi, Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a new GenConnect board for posting queries on the surname Vreeland. I know that there are alot of Vreelands around Passaic Co. Does anyone have any information on if the Street name in Paterson, called Vreeland Ave. was named after anyone in particular? Thanks, Jeff Van Schaik

I have only once asked everyone to support Rootsweb and the latest newsletter explains why that is an excellent idea. WHY DOES ROOTSWEB NEED YOUR SUPPORT? by Dr. Brian Leverich <[email protected]> Sometimes it is difficult for users to understand the costs involved in operating RootsWeb and why it is worth genealogists' time and money to support RootsWeb. For example, take the United States census. RootsWeb is currently providing server support to the USGenWeb Archives and Census Projects as they bring the U.S. census online. Our goal is to have both a searchable index to the census *AND* images of all the pages available on an open basis for all Internet genealogists. Our best estimate is that bringing the census online will require about 3.6 terabytes of data storage. That means we will need about 200 18 GB hard disks, and each of those disks costs about $1,000. That means the data storage alone is going to cost $200,000, and that doesn't include the servers and the bandwidth to make that storage accessible over the Web. Is $200,000 a lot of money? Well, sort of. Regardless of how much they want to help, Karen and Brian couldn't pay for that even if they mortgaged their house and cashed in their pension savings. On the other hand, $200,000 is only about 67 cents per user at RootsWeb. That is about 1/100 of what some commercial firms are charging for data they have locked up in members-only areas. Bringing the U.S. census online is not the only project RootsWeb supports. We are hosting literally hundreds of other data projects, some American and many for other countries (like the British FreeBMD Project). If all (or even if most) of our users were contributors, there is a lot RootsWeb could be doing to accelerate the rate at which public records are brought online and opened to the public. You can help us bring those records online. For details about support levels/benefits and payment options, visit <http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html> or send e-mail to <[email protected]>. The regular mail address is: RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative, P.O. Box 6798, Frazier Park, CA 93222-6798.
