    1. Re: [NJPASSAI-L] Death certificate
    2. Marcey, Depending on the year of the death, determines where you obtain a death certificate. And, yes, listers have been complaining about and I received a death certificate with cause of death blocked out. Thanks and have a great day!!!! Katie List Owner << Is it easier to write to Trenton or go to Passaic to obtain a death certificate in Passaic County? Also, has anyone ever received a copy of a death certificate only to have the cause of death blocked out? Thanks. >>

    2. Elizabeth Pruzinsky
    3. Hi List, I just received information from a family connection in Virginia that my great uncles, Nan, William and Jacob SIKKELEE were very much involved in the business community in Paterson, NJ in the early 1900s. Nan SIKKELEE reportedly owned 5 silk mills, a bank and a bakery chain which eventually became "Continental". His brothers, William (Willum) and Jacob (Jacobus)SIKKELEE owned Sikkelee Brothers Building Company in the People's Park Section of Paterson (21st Avenue area). If anyone has any information about this, I'd be really happy to hear from you. As a native Patersonian (who moved to North Carolina 8 years ago) I may be able to help you with your quest! Thanks, Elizabeth Walton Pruzinsky

    2. George Van Riper
    3. The Passaic County Historical Societies Library will be open on Tuesday's again when volunteers are on hand to give assistance you with your family genealogy. A few weeks ago a large pipe leading to the air conditioner on the roof broke and a flood of water came in through the roof( the library is on the top floor) and came in like a water fall. Luckily it was on a Tuesday afternoon when volunteers were on hand to move boxes, and paintings that are there until the Lambert Castle opens again next Spring. The library is in good shape but I don't know the results yet of the other damage. The water went down through all three floors to the basement before maintenance could shut it off. Loaction is 317 Pennsylvania Ave. corner of Buffalo and Railroad next to the farmers market. 973-881-2761 Ginger Nehrings John Williams George Van Riper

    3. I have a general question ..my grandmother was a ward of the state of nj all her life and lived in several foster homes. She has no birth certificate. She was connected to a woman who the state said was her sister when she was almost 20Y, who was raised by adopted parents. I know the name of her last foster mother who is now deceased. Is there somewhere I can write to to obtain records of that foster care mother, like the children she cared for and so forth?? Are foster children records off limits? Does anyone have and informatin on finding one's roots when their grandparent was a foster child? Thank you! Marci

    1. [NJPASSAI-L] HAGUE, OSBURNE
    2. ME & I Ellis
    3. Dear Listers, I am new to your list, and I am hopeful that someone might have a connection with the HAGUE or OSBURNE (OSBORN) families in Passaic County. I reached a dead end after finding JAMES HAGUE's marriage to ANNE OSBURNE on 1/1/1858 in Paterson. I know that both were born in England: James in abt. 1818, Ann(ie) in abt. 1839/40. I did find James and Ann on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census records. If anyone out there is searching for either of these surnames, I'd be grateful to hear from you. 1. [NJPASSAI-L] FHC Tip
    2. Thought this might be useful to those of us using the FHC site http://www.familysearch.org. Have a great day!!! Katie DeMayo List Owner << Tip: Using the Microfilm/Microfiche Number Search on FamilySearch.org One of the handiest features on the new FamilySearch website is the online catalog of the Family History Library. There are several ways to search this catalog, and the microfilm/microfiche number search can be extremely useful for researchers who are trying to verify data they have found in family collections, in family histories, and in such compilations as the Ancestral File. In many of these instances, the original compiler of the data often gave sketchy source references to the data, such as "Boston church records" or "Alabama county marriages", including an FHL microfilm number rather than a full bibliographic reference. Now you can use the microfilm/microfiche number search on FamilySearch to follow up on these vague source references. Just type in the FHL number of the film or fiche, and you can get a full list of the items on the film, and links to more complete descriptions of each item. This in turn may lead to a full list of other rolls of film if it is part of a series, such as a census schedule. Resource: FamilySearch http://www.familysearch.org >>

    1. Biographies
    2. This may have been mentioned before, but the USGenWeb site of Morris County, NJ is in the process of adding biographies of prominent individuals to the site. Although many of the individuals named settled in Morris County, many of them were from all different parts of New Jersey as well as from out-of-state. It is worth while to do a search in the site to see if any names you are researching are captured in the biographies. Good Luck and have a great day!!!
