Hi, I am fairly new to these lists and am trying to locate my great-grandfather. I have a copy of his death certificate in front of me, plus details of what I have tried to date with no results. Here goes: Salvatore Sapienza, age approx 87, of Van Hiseville, Jackson Township, RD3 Lakewood, NJ. As a farmer he died at home 14 Dec 1934, he was buried by HEBrown Funeral Home of Lakewood in a cemetery in Holmanville, NJ. I visited the Historic Cemetery of Holmanville but could not find a headstone. Called the local historians, who had records for that cemetery, they had no record of him. Found out that Brown Funeral home was put out of business by the state of NJ, but couldn't find any funeral home around that area where Brown's records might be. Called a number of Catholic CHurches (can't remember names) but no seems to have records of his death. Called Jackson Township with no results there either. Sent a letter to the Ocean County Historical Society and they could provide no assistance. So, I'd appreciate it if anyone could offer me suggestions of my next steps. I imagine I should try the Church again, but need to know what Catholic Church was open in 1934 - of course, I'm assuming (ouch) that being Italian -- he was Catholic. Does anyone know of the Brown Funeral Home records? What other possible cemeteries are there? Is there still a Dr. Thompson in Lakewood? and so on. Will appreciate whatever info you may think of. Separate question -- what is the church, denomination, etc. in Lakewood I believe, with the Russian 'onion dome' top to it? I've driven thru Lakewood a thousand times and never asked.
